Is it advisable to serrate a knife yourself?? Iwas thinking of serrating a ka-bar warthog.Actually just the front third of the blade.Am I nuts or is this a good idea?I'll take all feedback good or bad.

probably not going to be the easiest thing in the world without some specialized tools, and you'll have to be very careful of the heat treat.

I serrated a Cold Steel Recon Tanto with three sets opf metal files. It takes forever, but it is worth it.

I serrated a Camillus Arclite for a rock-climbing friend. But I did reverse-moon serrations, where the blade is a series of curves instead of points -Kit Carson came up with these and they are outstanding! all it takes is a vise, some files and some elbow grease - do it while watching tv. The nice thing about serrations os that they don't need to be perfect in order to cut like crazy. but you need to leave enough room when constructing them to be able to sharpen them, even if just with a file.

Hey Guys...

Heres what happens when someone doesn't know what they are doing decides they are going to give serrations a go...

Not pretty...
Looks like the top of the picket fence at my grandmothers house ..

Unless you know what you are doing,,and can afford to screw up a blade,, I wouldn't try it...

The serrations you see on production knives are done with specialized wheels, that do a seriers of them in one crack.
