I just wanted to share my experience on a hinderer XM18 i bought on here for 750 bucks. Ok i get the knife first thing i noticed was it was reshapened and reprofiled. Not the end of the world but the tip was blunted. My guess was it was done on a spyderco sharp maker. Seller said it was like new in box and still hinderer sharp lol. I was still real happy with the knife even with that.
Than i tried to reverse the pocket clip. I couldnt get that filler tap out to for the life of me. I tried putting a allen key in the hole and popping it out. Didnt work. I litterly spent 4 hours with it. I had myself convinced that what ever fool ruined the tip sharpening it epoxied in the filler tab. Finally in my frustrated state i carefully drilled a hole in the back of knife and was able to pop it out. Talk about a sick feeling after spending that kind of money on a knife and basically ruining the value of it on the first day.
So nexted thinking nothing of it i put lock tight on the screws for the frame like i do all my knives. After that i looked into sending it back to Hinderer to be resharpen and read the thing about not putting locktight on the screws on the site. I got them out but scratched the studs/nuts in the process and stripped one of the screws because i overtightened putting them back in after removing the locktight. Im like wtf. Thats what pushed me to send the knife back in to have it resharpen and have the screws replaced.
I get the knife back with in a week of me sending it which was amazing. They resharpened it and wacked the spine down to fix the tip. Looks good except now i have a stone washed blade and the spine is just machined. Kind of bothers me and adds to all the frustration this knife has caused me. BTW they sent the knife back to me with the stripped screw still in it and said it was because of the locktight i was having the trouble and they dont mess with knives that have had locktight applied to them.(i stripped the screw after removing locktight tightning it back up and was using his 75 dollar tool so i dont want to hear i was using the wrong size allen)
I got the screw out with a easy out and am waiting on new screws i bought for 18 bucks from monkey edge. But ill still will have scratched studs/nuts. I liked the knife so much i ordered another but i dont think its gonna make me feel better about what ive went threw on the first one.
Sorry this is so long and if your read the whole thing thanks for listening to me vent.
