don't have any money to buy a good one. New biz isn't generating enough income yet to support a....habit of acquiring knives. I've been doing a lot of sharpening lately, that helps, looking at auctions on ebay, reading stuff about different steels etc. But man I gotta get one, I really need a fix, has any one tried panhandling

funny you should post this....it also occured to me today to pan handle, or to have a sign that says, "Will work for knives", and hope to get some free spare change. ( I wonder how much those guys make)

Yeah, I feel like a new knife also. Have several on my list.

You'll make more money squeegeeing (is squeegeeing a word?...whatever, you know what i mean) just watch your feet when someone decides to take off all of a sudden.

I know people who have made a few hundred on a good day.

Now this is an interesting thread. :p You can set up a carwash or something like that. Or look around and see if you have any knives to trade, or stuff for the gadgets and gear section. People trade for some weird stuff at times. Worse comes to worse you can always collect aluminum cans. Good luck man. We are pulling for you.

There are plenty of quality knives to choose from at every budget level. How much can you spend, $10? $20? Would you believe you can buy a small good quality handmade knife for $18?

If you're looking for a user knife, you can save a bunch by not buying brand new.

Keep an eye open for closeouts and discontinued models. A 6" Camillus CUDA QCB for $30? An Effingham Ek Bowie for $30? $8 USA Schrade Old Timers? These have all been realities.

Best Wishes and happy shopping,
Bob

Any garage sale will have kitchen knives for $.25-$1.00. Have a ball. And they are good for practicing your sharpening skills too!

You can also trade what you already have.

Good idea. Use the Exchange Forum, that's what it's for. Let folks know what you have and see what they have. Come to an agreement on a trade and spend a few bucks on postage and 'Bingo' hopefully you're happy and you made someone else happy too at a small expense.

I think the knife bug is hitting everybody right now. Maybe it's deer season getting close or something. I've been feeling it too.

Do what I do when you want to get a new knife on the cheap. Go pick up a $5 old hickory. Refinish the handle, brown the blade, and sharpen the hell out of it. It'll make you feel better.

One way to satisfy cravings (at least a little bit) in between buys is to make a list of knives you would like to purchase. I often write down the knives, guns and lights I want to buy when the money and the time are right. It also lets you weed out impulse buys that you might not end up being happy with. If the same knife (or gun or light or whatever) keeps appearing on list after list, its more like that you actually want it and will be happy with it. At least thats how it works with me. I have no problem making impulse purchases too. :)

best regards

I've seen a special on TV where a guy was standing on a corner panhandling then after he was done, he walked to a brand new Mercedes and changed clothes.

Think about it. If the light changes every 3 minutes and he collects only two dollars at each light change, that would be $40 an hour, TAX FREE! Are my calculations right? If each light change is 3 minutes and there are 60 minutes in each hour that would be 20 opportunities to collect at least $2, perhaps more. That would equat to $320 tax free each day X 5 days per week would total $1600 per week TAX FREE!!

I'm changing my career from the ER to panhandling.

Thanks guys,
I do make some garage sales every weekends and you can definitely pick up some good kitchen knives on occasion. Good folders never seem to show up, I have picked up a couple of good old KaBar fixed blade. Pawing through the junk is fun.

It was nice to realize that there were a lot of caring responses to my frustration. My biz is not generating much income now but I know it will eventually so this is a temporary problem that will get better.

Thanks for responding
