Not too long ago I got the urge for a knife that wasnt on my list of knives to buy. A couple of things just came together and I couldnt resist. That story is here, just in case you missed it.

Well, today I received my Ogg Bowie, and I have to tell you this is one heck of a knife. I first heard of Max Burnett this past Sept. I know youll be hearing a lot more about him, just check some of the other folks that are picking up on his knives and posting on them on BFs. To see how this knife progressed from Maxs point of view go to his PhotoPoint site, you can see the story of my Bowie in his Works in Progress album, but take the time and look at the other albums there. If Maxs knives dont give you wood, it may be time for a testosterone injection.

And now for the specs and review. The OAL is right around 13 the forged L6 blade ((from Michael L6 Cooper) is just under 8 and 2 wide, I have to tell you its one serious knife. The handle is Stag (from Jake Evans) and buffalo horn, copper & leather spacers, and iron fittings. I wanted a period Bowie so I wasnt looking for perfect fit and finish, but this knife is really well made, and for a big knife the lines are very graceful. Especially the way Max did the guard which doubles as kind of a display stand, nice touch. The grinds are even and blend into the ricasso. Every part of the knife is rounded, except for the edge of course. I requested the sides of the blade be textured, which I understand Max does with a variety of ballpeen hammers, makes it look like it could have been made 200 years ago. He took it to a mirror polish and then blued it, stunning.
I could go on and on about how pleased I am with this knife, and maybe Ill add some other thoughts later, but now I just want to post a pic of the knife. Its the pic Max took when he finished it, and I havent had time to take any other pics, but I probably will.
Well. there she is. What do you think?
