I guess I am not a Assist kind of guy.

Had a nice Volli for about a week and liked everything about it, except the assist. Could not warm up to it, nothing wrong with it , just not me I guess. Took it back to the store and got a store credit, I had lost the receipt, and went back today and got this 940. I like this also, I liked the Volli, but I like this better. To each his own but I have learned a good lesson that did not cost me anything, well just some more money, but hey, I got another Benchmade and that can't be too bad right?

I think you made a great switch. The 940 series is amazing, and just as fast as an assist when flicked open IMHO. I feel Axis lock & assist don't need to be together. Just my 2¢.

I agree. Opening an axis assist really isn't much faster or easier than opening a non-assisted model, but closing takes significantly more effort.

The reason I like the axis lock is that its so easy to flick closed one handed, why take that away?

I'm not sure about the volli, but some of the assisted models are relatively easy to take apart and remove the assist spring. I like the looks of that 940 better anyway though, nice score!

The Volli is a barrage and should be easy to deassist, but your 940 looks great!

its ok, i dont like assisted either. i prefer a nice manual. ill still buy assisted knives though if i really like the design.

Thanks all. I really do like both knives, but the lack of the assist for closure is important to me.
Take care all, Frank.

In the same boat myself. Tried a mini barrage for a week and couldn't Stan the assisted opening. Axis locks especially can be thumb flicked open just as fast as the axis assist opening knives but are much easier to close than the latter.

It's sad really, I got the chance to try a de assisted mini barrage and I don't know if it's the construction of the knife but it was the smoothest knife I ever tried, much smoother than my mini grip. There was absolutely no blade play and the blade just fell with gravity when the lock was disengaged.

It sucks that to have that you basically have to void your warranty.

*an* assist...

Me neither, and I guess a guy doesn't know until he tries one, I've passed on the volli for this very reason. I don't care for aluminum handled knives either, so I'm superstoked for the new 940 with carbon fiber

That CF 940 is a prize, esp. in regular production. Many of us been around for years have waited for this. Yeah it's a little pricey but what you get solves the "great blade/easily scuffed T6 scales" discussion. Funny thing about the Volli and assisted's in general - either we like them or we don't, but they sell in large numbers. And not all of venture into the things to remove the springs. The A/O trend that most makers seem to be following is either a fad or will be around for years. I've seen others by other makers and think Benchmade's versions are the better offerings.
