I'm trying to find a large classic BG 42. How rare are these? Should I give up or keep looking?

Once in a while they pop up on eBay. I think they are mostly regulars though, so you might have a harder time finding a Classic. Just keep watching eBay and eventually one should come up.

In an earlier thread it is stated that CRK changed to S30V in Jan '02. I'm not sure when the classic 2000 actually came out , but it looks like you only have a 2 year window for such a model to have been produced.
A line to CRK direct on numbers produced might let you evaluate your chances
of picking one up .
Good hunting, Paul.

Yeah, the Classic MM was reintroduced in 2000. So that is a two year span. I bet posting in the Wanted to Buy forum would increase your chances of getting one. Out of ALL the classics produced between 2000 and 2002, someone must want to sell theirs.

Thanks for the info youall. I looked on Ebay and that one is a regular not a classic. I have advertised in Knives Wanted here. I may have to "settle" for a regular.

Whoa... were ALL Sebenzas produced before 2002 made with BG-42?

I have a Classic Sebenza that I bought used from someone in CPF and it was made in 2000. the seller said it was S30V but I never checked...

This might explain why it's such a PITA to sharpen. :D

The initial Sebbies were kick outta the door with ATS-34 and the CRK eventually replaced it with BG-42. But yes, S30Vs introduction was Jan 2002.

If the blade on your knife hasn't been replaced, the chances of it having S30V is. . . .well. . . .zero. :D

As far as sharpening, BG-42 isn't the easiest blade steel to sharpen (IMO). IMO, S30V is even harder to sharpen.

Nevermind... just got home from work and tracked down the papers that came with the knife; it was actually made in Apr. of 2002 from 58-59RC S30V. Ah well.
