I guess I'm a traditional guy

I have some slipjoints and a couple of flippy new age liner locks. I have to say I prefer the good ol' slipjoints. The modern knives with their open sandwich design, clips, choils and thumb ramps just don't feel as comfortable. I prefer the unlimited grips afforded by the simple grips of traditionals. The new knives are fun to play with, but for working I'd pick up a traditional knife.

well at least those of us that hang out in this corner of the BladeForums

*goes back to fondling his new jigged bone mini-trapper*

:D

Yep I'd agree to. I actually read in a popular knife maganize, a article about about traditional pocket knives. The writers interviewed a owner of a knife shop in texas who said his number one selling knife is a yellow handled Case trapper in CV steel. He claimed that many non knife folks still prefer traditional knives. I thought that was pretty cool.

I never see the need for such a huge blade from the new tactical knives.

Traditional knives are more user friendly also which i like.

yeah its funny. most of my friends, if they are into knives are all about the big, modern, tactical stuff.
not sure if its the one hand opening/pocket clip, or if they they think are gonna need it to fend off rogue bear attacks.

they think i am weird
ah well.. traditionals are smaller and therefore convenient to carry, thinner blade so they actually cut better, less threatening to the non-knife majority
besides, while the pocket clip is convenient most traditionals just LOOK nicer (bone/stag is much nicer handle materials than plastic/zytel)

just my 2 cents

As long as I can do most of the opening and closing with one hand I'm good. I do prefer liner locks.

ummm...Nate, you posted in the Traditional Forum. Not a whole lot of one hand openers in here.

I have a problem. I love traditional knifes and I bite my nails.... Makes thing difficult.

Try using one of those super bitter nail polish... :D or, alternatively, you might find another solution (borrowed pics from the net):

I'm not going to name brands, but I do have one 4" tanto blade tacticool folder. I think I it use like most guys use a sodbuster.

I preffer traditional slipjoints but in the winter months I also carry a Buck Vantage in the left breast pocket of my work jacket, it's easier to get to and open out in the cold while wearing gloves.

my transition to traditional knives at this point is a Vic spartan. I just bought a vic huntsman and am kinda regreting it. I love the huntsman but i think that a sod buster for edc would have been a better choice,
i have a stockman in the mail though so soon i shall begin my "true" initiation

I have the vantage, too. Its handle is well designed and free of many "tactical" gimmicks. Even so, I find the flipper/guard to get in the way of my index finger.
