I'm having a hard time dating my Puma White Hunter. It has a # of 11 6375 on the blade and 23981 on the guard. The sheath has a # of 99 63 75. Thanks in advance.

116375 is the model number for the White Hunter. The date code on the guard gives a year of manufacture of 1989 (first half of year) if I interpret the chart correctly. I was not aware of the sheath having a date code. It is probably a part number, given the fact that it shares 6375 with the part number for the knife.

I am assuming the date code series they started using in 1979 has not been changed. Your number appears to verify this, since the three parts of the date code agree with that method. But they have changed the date code several times in the past.

The first 2 digits - 23

In 1979 the first 2 digits are 13 (for the first half of year production), and this number increases by 1 each year. Add 10 years (1989), and you get 23.

The second 2 digits - 98

The second two digits are the year in reverse order, the typical code they used.

So the two pieces both point to 1989. The last number (1) indicates the first half of the year, which ties it all together.

The number on the blade (116375) is most definitely the model number, not a year code.
