I guess it boils down to...

.....imagine what it would have gone for if it had 2 blades!
I'll stick to the C641 at average $40 for identical knife but with Rosewood scales.
Schrades are bringing some outstanding prices at the moment with a lot of new blood bidding methinks........the irony is it could just as easily be worth $300 next week again.
I'm happy for that seller he has some fantastic Schrades. Hoo Roo

I guess now I don't too feel bad about buying one of those last year, with more bling, at a rock bottom basement price. ;)

I guess it is "Crazy", but if you have the sickness you lose your sence of pride and money. A lot less money (will have to cut out the Jack for a few months-maybe a year- Ha!) but happy me??? I guess! Someone else wanted it real bad too. The bids were going Ok up until the end with the knife priced at abour $295 and at the last moment (with only 2 seconds left) someone placed a bid for $505 (Must have beenn a Schrade guy with 400 at 100%) - I was away from home and had set a high bid just in case but it still hurt- hurts a lot as you can guess. It was the first LB 4 that I had seen on e-bay for some time and I had been looking for one for some time and did not know the real value - Any way it a start to completing my set of LBs. Still need the 9s. Will post a picture when completed. Guess I will be looking for a new wife also after she sees what I did. Wish me luck guys. CES

I figured it would go for close to the price the other one sold for. And I was planning on it being mine, but I guess I will have to wait for another one. I hope you don't have kids, child support can get expensive.

First, - Robert Clemente's book classifies it as "probably the most allusive(SIC) and rare of the Uncle Henry line of knives".

Second - If you spent some spare time and miles, driving around the country to check out knife shows, hardware stores, etc. to find this knife - what do you think you would invest in fuel and wear/tear on your vehicle.
And,that assumes that your time isn't worth anything!
Heck, everytime I fill the tank on my diesel pickup it costs me over $100.
In 2006,The wife and I took the RV and spent 2 months on a trip to Oregon & Washington. I looked in many back-country hardware stores, antique shops, flea markets,K-marts,etc. and found very few Schrades. When we got to Oregon,Dale gave me some good tips :D and I did buy a half-dozen NIB 8OT's and King Ranch's but I paid $30-$35 each.
When we returned,I thought about it and decided that seeing the Pacific Northwest and making some new friends was well worth the expense of the trip, but the extra stops and side trips to check for Schrades was not close to being cost-effective.
Buying off eBay may get expensive for hard-to-find knives but it sure is cheaper than any alternative. And a heck-of-a-lot faster.

Not sure if I am fuly correct on the price but I think that an LB 4 went for about $595.00 this past week on e-bay. I know it hurt in what I gave and the reason as noted before (but maybe I got a deal in todys market - Ha!). However, it appears that they are moving up in value. There is one on e-bay at about $300.00 today.

Ther Lb 4 went for $463.68 with the winner having several bids on top of that if he got bed against again (thus not sure what his top bid would have been). This would be about the mid-range from the past few LB 4s on e-bay.

Since Robert wrote his book "we" as a group have uncovered a few rarer editions than the LB4.
He was correct in that it is one of the rarest of the production issues.

"One of these days" we will have a list of the knives and the actual production numbers. (34OT has the largest #'s shipped so far)

I'm still looking for the Alamo Bowie.

Regards Tim

A Schrade connection right there, supposedly the knife Mr Bowie was carrying was made by George Wostenholm.

It is said that in his travels to and from Texas, Bowie did pass through Vicksburg, home to Henry Bodenheim, grandfather of Albert and Henry Baer. Bodenheim was in the hardware trade there selling domestic and imported hardware well before the War of Northern Aggression, after which he moved to New York City. Perhaps Bowie bought his knife from the Old Timer, Granpa Henry! :D
