I guess it was time to join up

I have come here for a while to read reviews on knives, or to learn about the differences in blade steels for some time. I hadn't really thought of myself as a knife person, but looking at what I have now it seems reasonable to join up.

What I have currently from small to large:
  • Gerber Dime multi tool -some type of stainless
  • Smith and Wesson HRT Extreme ops - 440 stainless, spring removed
  • ESEE Izula BHQ edition, red - micarta grips - 1095 carbon
  • CRKT Carson M16-13ZM Desert Camo - AUS-4
  • Zero Tolerance 360.SKD - S30V with tungsten coating
  • ESEE 5 - black straight edge, micarta handle - 1095 carbon
  • Shun Premier 8" Chef - basically the only knife I use to cook with - VG10 core with layered Damascus finish

If anyone has a good recommendation for a pocket carry knife with better steel than the gerber or smith and wesson, please feel free to send it my way. I just ordered the ZT, but it might be too large for some occasions.

You could try the Buck Vantage Force Pro.The steel is S30V, G10 handles and a 3.25 inch blade for $74.38 plus shipping on Knifehog.com

Thanks for the rec. It looks like a great knife for the price. I am looking at a smaller blade option though, as my ZT is a 3.25 inch blade.

I was looking at the Kershaw Chive just now.

Kershaw makes awesome knives.

The Leek is another solid option. The Skyline also comes to mind.

The Kershaw Leek is always a good choice. Don't know what your preferences really are, but certainly a Spyderco could satisfy them. I really like the Delica and Native for a smallish (small but not too small) EDC. I don't own a Leek although I think just about everyone else seems to and I know they are highly recommended here on the forum.

Nice collection! I would actually recommend against the chive. I know I will probably take some heat for this from some of the boys, but, I think of the chive as more of a novelty knife, or "toy". It's just too small. I have a hard time even handling it and opening it since it's so small. The leek is a much more realistic knife. Not big at all, but it's not ridiculously small either. Anyway, welcome to bladeforums! Kick your shoes off and stay a while!

The Chive will be way smaller. You can go to Walmart or other sporting goods store and at least look at the Kershaws in person.

I used the Kershaw Leek exclusively for almost a year with no problems.

Take a look at the Kershaw Cryo it's got the ZT style only smaller.

I know the chive is small, but I was looking for something decent with around a 2 inch blade for those times when I only want to carry the smallest knife. The smith and wesson worked well, but I have misplaced the thing and I am beginning to give up hope in finding it. I do love the look of the leek though. In general I am not a big fan of the style components of the spydercos, but the native is not bad. I saw one with wooden scales somewhere that I really liked.
