Hey folks,

Before you read this, just so you know, you don't need to read this... I think this is more so that I can get it out rather than a plea for sympathy.. I mean, in the end, it's just stuff, but that's getting ahead of myself.

I woke up this morning and was about to go to work (I work at a knife store on the weekends and landscape during the week), and as I walked down to the underground parking lot, a rear door on my 4Runner was open... Well, I knew that couldn't be good. They broke some glass and rummaged through my vehicle, stealing some rather inconsequential things... CDs, cigars, pipes, a flashlight, and that kind of material thing... They tried to steal the rig, but did a piss poor job of it..

The one thing that they stole that gets me is an 18" AK that I keep under my seat for clearing logs and branches for when I'm offroading... It was my first HI, and it's been my trusty/trusted companion throughout the years I've had my vehicle... Just this Christmas I used it to dig my truck out of a bad situation.. To have that stolen from me pisses me off. That's about all I can say to describe how I feel about it. I'm pissed off. Pissed off about the lack of regard that these kids had for things that hold more than a material value.. I also don't feel happy about the fact that that khuk has been turned over to the streets. It sickens me to think that a well used tool could be turned into a cold weapon through the simple switch of hands... It does not sit well with me.

If I saw these kids, I would confront them. I would not have violent or malicious intent, but I sure would want to know why...

Maybe I'm just being overly melodramatic... Anyway, as I said before, I guess I just had to express this. I'll get over it, and I'll turn another khuk into a decent survival rig to toss in the truck.

Well, back to the in the end comment. It's just stuff. The people I value in my life are alive and well. Even the conversations I was able to have with people at work today were phenomenal. I met a fellow forumite which energized me quite a lot.

This was a new experience for me, and a good one to have.

Yeah, but you feel violated when it happens, right?

The fact that it was nothing personal doesn't make it any better, either.

Hang in.

I agree with Kismet on this one.
Had something similar happen to me except they went for the CS Bushman in the front seat of my truck. They missed the pistol under the seat and the rifle behind the seat along with all the radios. pretty lame crooks in my case.

Although please tell me there was a police report filed. With all the makers marks on these blades it could be tracked and possibly returned to ya
Now I'm headed to bed

As I take a stack of car prowl reports as part of the job, I feel for the victims. I've lost track how many of the little dirtbags I have caught in the act (worst was a pair of 15 y/o utes on 3am, Christmas morning) only to see them walk with a slap on the hand. Most take stuff to pawn quickly for dope, most often meth as of late.

Personally, I hate thieves. I hate that my citizens get victimzed by them. But what I hate more is the prosecutors I deal with who get all weak kneed in a justice sense when the culprit pleads due to a long time drug habit and they walk with a slap on the hand.

I feel for you and understand the frustration. The reality is that your blade is gone and will not make it to a pawn shop. It will pass from hand to hand for a baggie of glass until it's eventually found in a recovered stolen vehicle or dumped in a lot someplace.

That sucks.

But I'll tell you something. I wouldn't want the bad Karma of stealing that khuk hanging over my head. I'll bet that if they ever try to use it, they'll lose a body part.

Watch your local newspaper for reports of a terrible self-inflicted injury from a big crooked knife.;)

Steve

I'm glad you and the people you love are not hurt. I'm glad you value people more than stuff. Some stuff is more than stuff though.

:(

Take care,

Tom

Been there.

Both me and my oldest daughter.

It is a good reminder that...things are just things. Anything you own can be replaced. People are important...things are just things.

Even knives.

[Smoke going up for you from Virginia.]

I'm really sorry to hear this. The loss of something you have bonded with in a way is the worst. Just consider the knife destroyed. You got all the good out of it, and what's left that they took from you will only cause them grief, like Steve said. Get a better one from HI and go on.

Still, there are times when getting some justice would go a long way towards easing ones frustration and anger.

Very sorry to hear. That's a real loss.

On the bright side, the thieves are not likely to read the safety thread, so a severe lower leg injury could be in store for some deserving person- who knows.

Dang. Thats rotten. You seem to have a great attitude about it though. They're showing it off right now. Just that fact might help them get cought with it. Khuks are the kinda things you show off.

Growing up, our house was broken into several times. Whether you have any of your own personal belongings stolen or not, there's still that mean-spiritedness lingering about when someone breaks in. It's a painful reminder that not everyone is civilized and respectful of their peers.

Last break-in, I lost a British Commando dagger and an MOD 4 that were discontinued. :(

You never know though, I'd at least get the police to file a report and keep a lookout. The guy who stole my knives was caught with a duffel bag full of my CD's when he got into an argument with a cabbie over fare. Thank goodness for dumb criminals!

Thanks for the support, folks. The actual window replacement cost $165 CDN... I probably could've gotten it cheaper if I had been able to find a used window, but each day that I miss work costs me money, so having it done in a day was more important than saving a few bucks on the window.

I will definitely take the idea of filing a police report into consideration. I wouldn't mind getting some of my stuff back, although some of the other stuff I can do without... Heck, it gives me an excuse to try out another HI... Either a GRS or another AK, though this time, it'll be a wood handle.

This experience has made me more wary, and I guess it's all part of the life experience. It's a shame some people suck, but to turn this into a paranoia or even a slight distrust of everybody would be a shame... To some of you, that may be a naive thing to say, but it's how I live my life.

Thanks again for taking the time to read the lament of a person who had a little bit of wrong done to them, and blessings on all of you folks. You guys are definitely good in my books.
