Didn't even know these existed. My stepdad was visiting his father, an ailing WWII vet, in another state, and before leaving he visited the local Walmart. He always checks out the knife counter. At this particular store they had the Red Paperstone Buck 181' for $19.99. Well he liked it well enough and thought the price was so good that he bought a bunch of them, and has been passing them out to friends and family. I saw him today, and he gave me one. This is also my first Paperstone Buck, and I like it. Blade kind of reminds me of the old style Spyderco Delica. It looks like it would make a nice edc.

No pics yet, but if I get one later today I'll add it to the Sunday Picture Show thread.

Congrats on the Odyssey, that is one of my favorite Buck's for a working knife...especially if I am doing any carpentry...I can mark and score my cuts way more accurate than a pencil...And they are Sooo comfy in hand! I used my first one as a warehouse worker...EDC'ed it every day for about 15 years...

Yes, I could see it working well for that. Didn't realized the model had been around so long. I assumed it was a more recent design.

Is it stamped or laser marked?

It is stamped.

I thought I'd add to this thread by posting a couple of pictures of the Odysseys that are available right now on Buck's web specials page. The top two are 420HC and they are stamped. The bottom is the one with the 12C27M Sanvick steel blade and is laser etched consistant with Buck's new policy of not stamping their "premium" steels.

Also, note the interesting difference in the blade grinds, the top two are the same but the bottom one is quite different.

Thanks Plumberdv, for the pics. Mine is the top one pictured (I suppose you already knew that, though). Nice to see the different versions.

The Odyssey made it's debut in the 1998 Dealer Catalog Addendum, so I would have gotten mine in '98 or '99 as it was a "brand new" product that one of my customers gave me...I worked for a hardware distributor at the time...so mine was my "go to" EDC knife for 10 years...I guess I exagerated a little :o
