Just had to share this. I drove down to Southern Ca. (Anaheim) to meet up with David Martin and his wonderful family yesterday and I have to say it was more than worth the drive. David, Leesa, Leesa's Dad (the Colonel), David and Leesa's two lovely daughters Sarah and Joanne were here to visit Leesa's Brother.
We met up at a resturant for lunch and had a great (but way too brief) visit. David had told me that he was wanting to get a 309 for the Colonel to replace one he had lost to airport security and I just happened to have a Sambar Stag Le that I was more than happy to present to him. I think he was pretty happy with it. I was proud to give it to him, partially to thank him for his 32 years of service to his country, first starting in 1941 in the U.S. Army Air Corps and then on into the U.S. Air Force.
Then, David and Leesa stunned me by presenting me with a BEAUTIFUL scrimshawed plaque featuring my old girl, Zuey who I lost a few years ago. I had sent her picture to Leesa and was considering having her do it on a knife for me, but kept procrastinating. Leesa seemed fascinated by Zuey's picture and decided not to wait for me to make up my feeble mind! The plaque is something I'll treasure for a couple of reasons. One because the old girl was a very special creature to me but most of all because of David and Leesa's thoughtfulness!! I don't know how to say thanks!
Here's some pictures taken as we were getting ready to part ways and head home. This isn't too far off topic, there are actually a couple of knives in the pictures that I sent home with them so Leesa could perform somemore of her magic. The pictures from inside didn't come out well at all, so no pictures of the girls. Sorry Sarah and Joanne.
Here's a direct scan of the plaque and the picture that inspired it below. I don't think anyone could have captured the subject any better! I may ask Leesa to try and duplicate it on the Buff horn Kalinga that I sent home with her.
