I played a little golf with a wounded service member. A friend of mine and I decided to play some golf this afternoon since the weather was nice. We got paired up with a couple of singles. One of them was an older guy who, while nice enough, wasn't the greatest golfer. The other guy was a young guy who served in the Marine Corps and lost part of his leg in the war. He had a pretty high-tech looking prosthetic. The older guy gave up after nine holes. He sucked
. The younger guy out-drove me on a several holes and I'm a long ball hitter (approaching and occasionally over 300yd.) and a pretty decent golfer in my own right. His putting and chipping were also "up to par"
. My buddy had to split after the 16th hole. There were deer all over the place on the course and the rutt is just getting going. Very little daylight left and we spotted a good sized buck following a doe. We watched them for about 10 minutes and this guy got the buck to respond to his guttural doe bleat. It was within 25 yards or so but I could barely see it. Earlier he had spotted another big buck bedded down with his lady-friend and they were only a few yards apart. Made me get the itch to get into the deer woods. Our wounded warrior is a big time hunter too. This guy was pretty amazing. If he'd a had long pants on I never would've guessed that he didn't have full use of a leg. And judging by the way he hits the golf ball I can't imagine him having any trouble getting a climbing stand way up a tree in the woods. Good day.
