There was a time I only hunted with a muzzleloader . I had not shot any black powder gun in 10 years. A month or so ago I dug out a 51 navy replica I got as a present Poured some round balls and went to the range. :D Well a couple weeks ago I was looking around gunbroker I saw a lyman trade rifle that was at a gun shop just down the road. I threw a bid on it and got for cheap . Had it out last week shoot well enough I can hit claybirds at 60 yards free hand. It is a kit gun but just looked like a gun that was hunted with.
The muzzleloader that I have wanted for years is a T/C renegade in 56 smooth bore . I had not found one in decent shape for what I want to pay when I had the money . Well I was reading another forum and some one said there were 2 of them setting on a shelf in a gun shop in Rhode Island, in great shape for the price I liked and I had some extra cash :D I now have a T/C renegade smooth bore  At 25 It put 2 shots touching and a third 1 1/2 in. away then 7/8th oz of shot on the same target that patterned well enough to put small game in the pot:thumbup: Guess I will be chasing squirrels come fall with a B.P. gun
Forgot how much black powder smoke made me smile

Good ole boom sticks! I hunted for a while with a 45 Kentucky clone rifle. Never got anything, cussed it a lot (*click* dang!) but I had a ton of fun with it! I have a colt army and a navy clone also I shoot once or so a year too! But these days, it's mostly inline. Modern muzzleloaders aren't quite as fun to me, but putting four shots touching at 100yards has something to said for it too! You're right, the smoke is the best! Just doesn't make you a lot of friends at public ranges!

The only thing that beats the smell of real black powder is when it is combined with Ballistol used as lube, or for swabbing the barrel- sweetest smell on earth. Can I assume that since you are in Cincy you have been over to the NMLRA event in Friendship, IN? A great event if you want to see the variety and quality of the custom makers who attend. I went off the deep end for awhile with flintlocks and they are still my favorite toys. They are just fantastic.

Missed a chance at a Mint unfired T/C Hawken .54 Friday at my LGS. A guy bought it for 200 bucks while I was waiting my turn at the counter. I still can't believe it......., so, I bought a new S&W 69 Combat Magnum instead. Oh well...... I will pick up a black powder rifle at some point in the near future.

awesome, ain't it?
