This is a knife sold by Smokey Mt. In all fairness it is not a bad fillet knife for under 2 dollars. But the reason I am posting it is because of its markings . Tell me is this cool or what. CAMP USA It is made in China but the companies headquaters is in the USA. What does that mean? Is there an extra room in some chinese restuarant where they ship these from. This is not a deception it is just an example of what we just let slide on by us. I mean unless you really read it what would a quick look lead you to believe. Does anyone else feel that perhapes part of the reason for a tang like this might be to allude even just a little bit, that this was at least in part an american product. Naa it must be my paranoia again.

I am showing this example in part to emphasize what I have said previously in regard to Schrades future. If a foreign company would go this far to sell a product with something on them even close to an american credential what would a name like Schrade be worth to them? Ahhh Sooo LT PS That name ( trademark) is up for sale at the auction. Like I said before this ought to be some circus.

It´s a shame, I believe there is an island in the orient which they named "Usa" so that they could mark things "made in Usa". Here in Mexico a lot of clothing is marked with the Words "New York" (or "Paris" or whatever) but somewhere esle in small letters "made in Mexico" (or China or whatever). At least in the U.S. they have by law to put the country of origin on knives. I have knives bought in Mexico with no marking at all (which to me means not made in USA).

So, in the future when you buy an "Old Timer" check it out and make sure it´s an old one, just the name won´t mean much any more.

Kind of like all the "Windchester" knives at Wal-Mart (complete with their trademark logo). I think they are all made in China.

I noticed that too JH. They had some Remington knives too, but I didn't look too closely at them. Shrade made some Remington knives, I think... were these new ones Schrade knives?

:(
Those winchesters (small w on purpose) are being imported by Gerber (Fiskars), I believe. Witness all the new models of Gerbers in the display......hmmmm.
The Olin Corp. sold the rights to the Winchester name, outside the U.S. quite awhile ago. For firearms, knives, whatever. They do seem to be flooding us with Chinese knives, that's for sure.
Blue Grass Cutlery has/had? the rights to market Winchester (and Primble) knives in the U.S.A. Made by Queen (Winchester) and Utica (Primble). I have seen Primble's from China now in the SMKW catalogs. WHATEVER.

Remingtons are made by Camillus, I believe. Maybe some are coming from China??

LT...what's really sad about Camp USA, is it is/was? a division of MeyerCo USA, in Texas. So what, you say? MeyerCo is a businessman named Bill Meyer and none other than the legendary Walter "Blackie" Collins, holder of about a gazillion knife patents.....Stru'N'Cut...original Rollox(sp?)....speed assisted Speedster....as well as jeans with a built in holster for a .45ACP. Pretty bright guy. American success story, and all that jazz. Too bad they went to China to have everything made. :grumpy:
Lifetime warranty.....except there's no published phone# on the current website. WHATEVER, again.

Any more on the viewing.....kind of like a wake, I guess. :(
