Weight: 8.7oz
Blade Length: 3.5"
Total Length: 9"

Blade Thickness: 0.17"
Blade Width: 0.9"
Blade: Damasteel stainless Damascus fighter style blade
Bolster: Engraved German silver bolsters (Engraving by Simon Lytton)
Handle: Curly ironwood scales with a fileworked stainless back spacer
Comments: This large folder was created by Ray in 1990. It has been meticulously cared for and is in excellent/mint condition. The long folding blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. The spine has been fileworked in a pattern that continues into the stainless backbar. The blade is easily opened using the stainless thumb stud. The knife is identified by Ray's mark (RB) on the left side. It is identified as knife no. 018 on the right side and is dated 1990 on the base of the ricasso. The German silver bolsters are both engraved by Simon Lytton and show off his exceptional work. The engraving is signed on the base of the left bolster. Curly iron maple scales fit perfectly to the bolsters. They are dark in tone and have a dramatic grain pattern. An amazing find from the past that measures up in every way to the best folders of today.

I like everything except the thumbstud. Kinda throws the pattern off, but doensn't make it look bad. I would like something like that someday. With a nail nick though.

I'm not usually crazy about engraving, but that is beautiful! Lytton is one of the best engravers out there though and knows how to keep it tasteful. The filework is very refined too, and the dark handles with the light spacer behind it sets the whole thing off.  Two thumbs up!

Wow!! I see so many overly-ornate filework on customs these days, this one looks so much more restrained and elegant. Classy all the way.

Love the overall shape, too. Oddly enough, I recently started designing a knife very similar to this; in my case, it was inspired by the PCC Laredo I recently picked up, but with a thumbstud, guard integrated into the bolster, and longer blade. This looks remarkably like what I was working on!!

...wow...

wish that was in my collection. If only... ... ... wow... uh... wow.

Peace.

My sentiments exactly. Absolutely beautiful though. Very ornate without being tacky or gaudy in the least. That thing has heirloom written all over it.

Wow! I'll echo other's sentiments on this one - most engraving work and damascus blades that I see look far too busy and overstated for my tastes. This one, however, is elegantly subtle - simply superb. The ironwood handle sets off the black-and-silver colors of the blade and bolsters perfectly. This is a top-notch folder, to be sure!!

I love the knife, but don't really care for the engraving.

I have seen quite a bit of Ray's work on the internet and I think the price for this one is high.

Hi Keith,
I have seen customised production knives reaching 800$ and more. This one is a custom with top material and workmanship. I disagree with you.

Very, Very, nice.

I especially love the background. Did you intend for certain words to show up on the pages? I can see geometry, and lovable.

Very subtle use of identifiers that would make someone subconsciously want this blade, kind of like the old Coke advertisements.

Thanks for sharing.
