I hang out in Traditionals mostly, but......

I really like Spyderco. Especially the slipit design. I wish Spyderco would break bad and make a slipit that looks like a for real slip joint - something with carbon fiber scales. They could make the handle 3 & 5/8" long and use the spyder menuki for a shield. Use whatever steel. Put a tiny little hole next to the nail nick, or maybe even a long pull.

That would be incredible. Why keep beating around the bush with UK's, Urbans, Pings and whatnot? Spyderco has followed other classic patterns with the bushcraft and Scandinavian fixed blades, so why not with a slip joint? Do some research, or put a question out to the tradational guys as to what their favorite handle/blade shapes are.

This is a good idea.

How could they improve over what's already on the market in that category?

The same way they improve over any other tradionals.

From what I've seen, I think the point of their slipjoint line is to sell a modern folder to citizens of countries with laws against locks, not as a knife marketed as traditionals with a few upgrades, so that would be why there isn't one yet or why they're beating around the bush.

That said, I would be very interested to see what you describe. I think the Spyder logo as the shield in particular is very cool. Maybe we could get a sprint of an existing model with the material upgrades you suggest.

I for one believe the Kopa is a nice traditional/modern hybrid. It combines the aesthetically pleasing traditional handle scales with the nice modern features such as a spyder hole and pocket clip.

I'm not Mark, but I can tell you it's a real Micro Dyad. Neat little knife. I just wish I could find someone to disassemble one, shuffle the blades around, and reassemble it for me.

With the pinned construction, I'm probably not going to get that ambitious. Especially since the only one I have was a gift from my girlfriend.

Paul- Is that my Yellow Spyder?
No, it was made for my by a fellow forumite, "tonydahose" after I realized that about the only color scales I didn't have on a Kiwi were bright yellow. Tony had some "sun yellow" Corian that reminded me of yellow Delrin.

Can't blame you Jack, but figure maybe one of the guys who tinker with traditional slipjoints might be willing to work on a locking folder.

Deacon, that scrollwork is really nice. Who did it?
Thanks, it was done by David Clevinger and I'm extremely pleased with the way it turned out.
