I know this may be more of a W&C post but this is where I spend all of my time here of BF and as such feel a connection to you folks.

Anyways, I hate computers my friggen computer just up and lost all of my bookmarks ALL OF THEM! Turned it on went to come here clicked my BMs and NOTHING! Now this may not seem like much to many but to me it is the loss of a year plus of hunting and searching for things, resources and comparison shopping for work and play. I highly doubt it was Firefox's fault so I'm going to chalk this one up to the computer gremlins...lil'bastids!

theonew you are a life saver my friend thank you thank you thank you it worked everything is all there.

Now that you have it fixed, it might be a good time to backup those bookmarks to a safe spot. Since you're using Firefox, while the browser is open click on Bookmarks, Organize Bookmarks, File, Export....then save it to a disc, another drive, a flash drive, etc. I do this about once a month just in case.

I know exactly how you feel, the same thing happened to me just last month. Years of searching and usefull websites, gone...

If you use firefox browser, check out www.foxmarks.com

Basically you save your bookmarks on there server so if you lose them, you can just resync with foxmarks. Plus you can sync you bookmarks from multiple computers. Like I do half my searching at home on my wifes computer and half at school on my computer, so if I bookmark anything at home, I will have access to that bookmark on my computer as well.

This is the best thing I have come across ever! Especially when you really want a bookmark that you know you have but it happens to be on another computer.

FEBE Get FEBE. It allows you to backup all sorts of bits of Firefox either as one big profile bucket or in a modular fashion. It's handy for extensions too in that you can save them as .xpi – meaning that you can drag and drop them...

I'm glad your Wilderness friends could help you, but this thread doesn't do the rest of Bladeforums any good in the wrong place, so I'm moving it to Gadgets & Gear.

I never had problems with IE. Firefox was a pain to configure, so I dumped it.
To each his own. Vilifying the other side is a sign of insecurtiy. :)

PEBKAC ;-)

Anyway, despite the superiority of Firefox, IE is too deeply ingrained to be healthy, and woe betide those poor souls that want to dump IE7 after XP SP3 an easy way.

FYI...just because you post in a particular forum more than another it doesn't mean you can post off topic threads there. Please post in the appropriate forum for the topic you wish to discuss. We have a plethora of forums dedicated to many different things.

That is all. :)

I've been using IE ever since I had a pc.Am I missing something better with firefox?

I think it's better, but obviously not everyone agrees. I've used it since it came out and only use IE when I have to (there are the odd sites here and there that just don't work right with Firefox). Compared to IE it's faster, it has less security problems and I find some of the features to be very handy. My Mom is on dialup and the last time I was home I downloaded and installed it for her; needless to say she's no computer geek and the first time she used it she could tell a difference in the speed that pages loaded.

It's free at Mozilla.com and you can give it a try.

:thumbup:Thanks for the tip BlackHills, but I think I'll stick with IE.I'm not very computer savvy & frankly change scares me:eek::D

I've been using Firefox for about 4 years now. I lost all my bookmarks once; but the support site had the fix the guys mentioned up in the FAQ.
The newest version of IE has most of the features that Firefox does, but it seems clumsier to use to me. (likely 'cause I don't use it much.)
With Firefox, I seem to get a lot less in the way of tracking cookies and that sort of thing; I hardly ever find more than a couple when I run my various scans.
If you get a browser crash, there's that nice "restore last session" option too.

I use Portable Firefox at work in the department's laptop when I want to connect to the internet; I have it on a flash drive. Very handy, and no tracks left on the computer.
There are still a few sites that don't "like" Firefox; and for some reason I've never figured out sometimes a Quicktime video will make it crash. However, they always play just fine when you re-start the browser. Go figure.
