I have always hated Spydercos. They are ugly. They always looked like a derp knife to me, No class no style and butt ass ugly. A friend of mine and I were at a BBQ and I had a brand new Chris Reeve Sebenza 21 in my pocket. My friend said "hey dont use that," and I was handed a Para Military 2 as it was his second knife, he said "that knifes too nice, here use this...." I used it for cooking, cutting wood chips for the fire. This knife had a black coated blade, despite rough use for every thing there wasnt a mark on the blade. I used that ugly knife the whole day my sebenza never left my pocket, and the very next day....I bought one. I had begrudgingly admitted to myself that day the the PM2 was one of the handiest knives and a perfect slicer. I found myself actually thinking it was the perfect edc knife. I paid a premium at the gun show for it because they had one in the color scheme I liked, cammo with a black blade. I went from hating Spyderco knives to gradually understanding that they were built to use, not be fondled or stared at. I may buy a full size Military next, I dont know yet. But the PM2 is an amazing knife and all the hype was actually true. I would honestly say to anyone thinking about getting one.....do. Like i said I didnt even like Spyderco knives, at all.....and this little knife made a believer out of me. The guy Sal and his son know what they are doing.

You wallet won't thank you for this revelation. That said though, you'll be grinning the whole way. I highly recommend a Military. I could recommend at least a dozen additional Spyderco knives that are easily available and very conducive to the general philosophy of the brand (Function before form, which once realized, becomes function and form as one). Try a Ladbug or Manbug on your keychain (Or best yet, but harder to find, a Jester), and you'll wonder why you never had one. One thing that could also happen is that you could decide to try a bunch of different steels like HAP-40, CPM CruWear, Aogami SuperBlue, ZDP 189, H1, M390, K390, CTS 204P, K390, CPM S90V, CPM S110V, etc. No company spoils its supporters anything like Spyderco does with its sprint runs and the Mule Team project. Again...your wallet won't thank you, but you'll be smiling the whole way down the rabbit hole. I haven't even gotten into the plethora of different lock types etc.

Well 3rdGen I am not a spyderco fanboy yet.....thats for sure. I love my CRK and Benchmade Autos.....but....I think the PM2 is a homerun of a knife. Spyderco did a good job with their S30V, it takes and keeps a hell of an edge. It is the best slicer of any of the knives I own. I will have to see, but for the short run....its kicking the big boys out of my pocket for a while......

Some people look at a flat ground leaf and it gives them a tingly feeling in their special place. And some people scratch their head and can't understand what the big deal is. The first time I showed my brother a Native, he handed it back to me and said "Don't show me that cheap plastic crap. My knife is a Smith & Wesson." He thought he was a smart shopper because he got a name brand knife at Walmart for 10 bucks. Now he's a little more educated, but he still wouldn't carry one.

I just happen to fall into the "relationship status: Spyderco" category.

The Paramilitary 2 is a home run knife.

Great share.

My favorite Spydercos are the Endura, Delica series.

But its a tough sell for the masses.

Part of the "Sliciness" comes down to edge geometry, though I do have to say that in my experience (44 current Spydercos, mostly in different steels and lock types etc.), Spyderco has very good protocols regarding the heat treatment of their steels, regardless of the model or where it's produced.

The thing that originally sold me on Spyderco knives was an FRN Native that was owned by my uncle. I handled it once and decided that I needed one (This happened more than 10 years ago). I bought one, more than 10 years ago, and it was tragically lost on a job site a few years later. An identical replacement was in my pocket within the week. FRN is some really durable handle material...I once naively clipped my replacement Native (Very roughly 8-9 years ago) to my climbing pouch (It's better tucked into said pouch without the clip exposed while climbing), and it was pushed out of my pouch while I was squeezing through a torsion resistor and it fell 275 feet onto gravel (Closed fortunately). I carry said knife even today when it comes into my rotation schedule (I have a fair few, and rotate through them). If I handed you the knife you almost certainly wouldn't be able to find the mark on the handle left by the gravel after a 275 foot fall. Function, for the sake of function, can be more appealing than anything aesthetically, and with appreciation can be even better. Here's a picture of said knife, and one from a different tower but the equivalent height.

Yup, it is sweet. I really thought the PM2 was just over-hyped..... Until I broke down and got one. I'm still a little baffled that the blade rollout can be that smooth, without any play....folded, mid, or full lockup. Mine is definitely as smooth as most (if not all) of my bearing pivot knives. In fact I haven't even been brave enough to break it down for cleaning out of fear of not getting back to perfect centering and action.

I'll probably wear out the pivot and stop just from flicking the blade over and over, long before I could actually wear out the actual knife. Yeah, it's that smooth. [emoji41]

Great stories guys,I must admit I too thought Spydercos were the worst looking knives every.i probably as most fell for the more Tactical looking knives."silly me"yeah after I got my hands on a Pm2 O' Lord it was over I was officially bitten. I must say I had at least 2-3 in the mail per week for months on end.25+ spydies later I don't see the erge for more letting up any time soon.my taste is getting more and more expensive.but hey I could be doing worse things with my money living here in Vegas (sin city)now if only I could find something to cut besides tape from the box of a newly purchased Spyderco.the struggle of living in the city.

I used to like only Military & Para blade shape.
Used to think the hump of Endura was ugly.
Did a tip regrind of my SB

Hello fellow BF members,i was not so in favor with the PM2,more the Manix 2 XL,but since a month or 2 i carry a PM2 and i must say this knife suits me best,i'm a "southpaw"and the opening/closing AND the lock is ideal for me/lefthanders!great knife/design!

So just for fun the PM2 is pulling all knife duties today including kitchen duty, the knife knows how to slice! I sliced garlic thin enough to see through.....

URBANPREPPER: You can...easily....take into the kitchen and use it for all your food prep...I did today and it was fun...survival in the kitchen...lol:cool:

Texasbuck110 I think your on to something there.this Pm2 will be on food prep duty tonight.Thanks.lets see what she can do!

The black coating on a spyderco will outlast any other brands black coating. Hands down.

i just received my 1st pm2 today from another forum member and i tell ya, i could not be happier or more impressed with the knife :)

The PM2 is pretty good, but I'm partial to FRN and back-locks. I'd like a FFG Endura and a Military, and that should have me set for life. :)

All these PM2 threads have me real close to pulling the trigger on one.

Have kinda been detoured by Manix 2's lately---got a plain edge first then a combo edge--which is quickly becoming a favorite---combo edges just work for me better than anything else.

I went through the same thing - I really disliked how they looked, but after I gave a Salt 1 a chance, I started to love their designs. In fact, eventually Spydercos became the only folders I carry.
