...but this is inescapable. The M43 is a great knife. Kesar did a beautiful job - everything about it is 10/10 as Uncle says, and the fit and finish is beyond reproach. Karda and chakma are the best of any to date, and the new sarki is as good as any leather lizard out there. The frog on this scabbard is on to stay - you can see where it was forced on while both pieces were still wet. I got the chape off of this one, and after rubbing/peeling off the epoxy, I don't believe his rigs need any further tip ornaments. Some Lexol and three coats of Kiwi neutral shined it up like a showroom model. The wood scales appear to be a straight-grained Saatisal, very much like the handle on my GS, which didn't show the gold sap grain until it had several coats of oil. They, of course, will need some attention...HEE:D

There is exactly 4" of wood between the bolster and the butt cap, measured through the center of the rivets. Mainly because of the top curve of the handle, the butt cap angles away from the back of my hand, and I can get a full grip staying on the wood (but just barely). Handle circumference at the first (forward) rivet is 4". The handle tapers down from there toward the butt cap, accomodating the shorter fingers very well. This is a comfortable grip in my hand, but if it was smaller in any dimension, it would be crowded. I won't know if the full tang vibrates until we go next door and visit ye olde telephone pole. Nick will have plenty of chips for barbecue flavoring next summer. Pine and creosote  :p YUM.

Sounds like the handle is just right for you Walosi.:) I have sort of big hands (Am 6'4") so the Handle on mine could be a little longer and bigger around. But not by much. Uncle says that my 25" AK is in the air.:D hehe hehe hehe! I hope the Handle is big enough:D:p hehe hehe hehe

Personally I think you will like the M43 Bruise. If you get a chance, get one. The HI M43 is Dang sweet and feels like it wants to be used.

I've had my eye on an M43 since the first ones came in. Then a blem comes up, then a villager, then this or that... :(

Now they're talking about hanshees and that new fancy bowie...

What am I supposed to do? Maybe lottery tickets are the answer

Thanks for the info on the M43 Walosi, I have a Kesar M43 on order from Uncle Bill also. Makes the anticipation all the more sweeter..:D

Arvind, you can even turn up your anticipation a couple of clicks - you won't be disappointed......but drink less coffee, so you won't be shaking when you open the package. I forgot to mention that this had an edge on it like Sanu's big UBE. Kesar knows his stuff.

As far as shaking for anticipation, I will be doing that when I have the package in hand hehe. As far as the coffee goes, I don't drink coffee, I'm strictly a tea drinker especially green tea. In all seriousness though, my original thinking was to get a steel mounted YCS until I saw the M43. Since I have a liking for WWII era khukuris, this was irresistable. (Sorry Yvsa). However, the YCS is on my list for later on in the year..

You were right, for once...Is there anyone out there, anyplace, who has ANY trouble understanding why I HATE TO AGREE WITH TSIMI???? Kindly old grumphmumblemygarglegrunt......AAARRRRGH

I once agreed with Tsimi but then I woke up and realized it was all just a really bad dream. ;)

(Hope everyone has been well during my absence.)

when you wake up and find out it was real....like they all look better at closin' time

Many thanks for good field report, Wal. On standard stuff Kesar can do just as well as any kami in the shop.

I have to admit Walosi, Jim's research paid off real well. I wonder what the next khukuri will be on the Caveman's research table?? ;)

IIRC, Tsimi promised chopping, cutting and slicing tests - out in the Everglades stuff. He probably spent the time set aside for that sitting on the fantail with Fausto, sipping Jugo de Pinas and swapping whoppers. That ain't "research".....

Speaking of testing, is it true that with full tang khukuris like the Chiruwa Ang Khola, that there is fair amount of vibration that goes through the khukuri to your arm because of it. I may not be phrasing this correctly though but bear with me. It's something I heard mentioned a while ago on the forums. The thread is most likely in the archives by now.

Blues is BACK!! HOT DANG!!! ... first Tsimi shows up... then Harry, now Blues. Probably all of 'em celebrated TOO much over the holidays and woke up on the West Coast... without a car. Had to walk all the way back to the East :D.

Tsimi... see what those bears and one-legged-dancing girls will do to you when you let your guard down??? I don't even want to think of what you trainee would do (shudder  )

Welcome back guys!

:D:D:D

That's what the real experts say.

Which I'm not. but I would argue that its more of an issue with khuks OVER 15" in length. I have a 15" Chiruwa handled AK and I've chopped lots of hard wood with it and vibration is not a problem for me, of course I may just be tougher than they are;) :p (Rob running like H*ll and ducking for cover:D )

:p :D

I "think" I can feel a difference between the chiruwa and the tapered tang but have never tested myself blindfolded -- probably a smart move on my part -- for a change.
