What should I get? Need a pocket clip and the ability to be opened with one hand. Looking at the MT Mini-Socum and a few others. Any ideas?

Al Mar SERE 2000.
Benchmade 730.
Spyderco Endura (WAY under $150).

Of the knives I don't yet have, the Spyderco Chinook II looks to be a winner.

The world of Production Knives is your oyster...

I prefer Frame-Lock folders, if you look around a bit on the "For Sale" Forums here you should be able to find Buck 172, the production version of Tom Mayo's poular TNT design. Titanium Frame-Lock, CPM S30V blade steel, pocket clip set for tip-down carry. Hard to beat in it's price range, though the Benchmade Axis Lock fans are about to flood you with suggestions anyway...

d00d, you could get about any production knife for $150:p

Brands/styles you like?

The Spyderco ATR is what I would get. Could also get the assisted opening Camillus Dominator.

i second the al mar sere 2000, another knive the size of the mini socom would be the al mar nomad(a many socom on steroids)-can be bought for less than 100 if you shop- there is nothing wrong with the mini socom- how will you be using it- there are also some prybars diguised as knives for less than 150.00, john greco offers a ton of knife for 75.00 oh well i will stop now-just got excited

Camillus Dominator.....titanium framelock and S30V blade steel......hard combo to beat!

I'm expecting a hundred or so Spyderco replies, and a bunch of Benchmades too. People usually like what they buy.

Really though, what do you want in your EDC? If you are looking for something that is unobtrusive (but not "small"), perhaps consider a carbon fiber handled Spyderco Delica, a Microtech Mini Socom Elite, or a Buck/Mayo TNT.

If size isn't that big a deal and you're looking for the fit/finish categories, try to find a good deal on a Microtech LCC or an Al Mar SERE 2000. These two almost always have excellent fit/finish and work very well. Not sure about the Camillus Dominator (I haven't had good luck with Camillus QC) but other people seem to like it okay if you can find it for that price.

You may also find the Benchmade 94x series to your liking. I liked the 943 a lot, but I also saw a few Benchmades that didn't do so hot on the QC scale.

Of course, what you like visually and what you want to do functionally will definitely help dictate what kind of knife to get, much more than just price range. Lotsa knives are available to you.

I've had various Spyderco's and Benchmades, the Spydie's are the only ones I've kept. Blade length needs to be in the 3.5" and under. Scales? Both G-10 and carbon fibre are fine. Aren't they making a CF Delica? Now that would be up my line.

Thanks for the replies:D

Benchmade 94x series would be my recommendation. They can be had for a little over $100.00 and they are well worth the bank. If you are looking for a smooth one handed opener, these are some of the best.

JMHO, good luck in your search and let us know what you get.:D

Thanks for the suggestions. I've narrowed it down to two knives: Delica Carbon Fibre and the Al Mar Nomad. Both have the blade length and features I'm looking for. Now just have to decide which to try first...

steve

Suggest you seriously consider the Benchmade 710 w/Axis Lock. It is, IMHO, the best production EDC for the money.

Ok, I'll say it...Chinook 1. I love mine and won't be buyin' the II any time soon.:

Of those two, get the Nomad...(But if I were you, I'd go back and take another GOOD look at the Benchmade 730.:D.).

Choice #1- Spyderco Military
Choice #2- AlMar SERE 2000
Choice #3- one of the above:)

I'll second the original Chinook style.Mine even has the new S30V Steel.Best knife for the money imho.Another good folder is a Benchmade 806D2 Axis lock. What appeals to me obviously may not appeal to you as I'm not a delica or nomad fan.Enjoy whatever you purchase ;)

Forget those liner-locks and framelocks and thumb-studs. What you want is a good old fashion lock-back with a thumb-hole, and that means you want a Spyderco knife. Consider these beautiful badass knives:

Carbon fiber Delica
Carbon fiber Police
SS Police
Persian (SS with micarta scales)
Chinook II (SS with G-10 scales)

Happy hunting,
Allen.
