THANKS ALL!

if you want to spend that much-spend a few more and get a custom-

ive been there, done that- and have not only the tshirts to prove it but some knives also-lol

ive had some sebenza's and carry a strider pt as a edc-striders arent pretty enough to worry about scratching-sebenza's are

if i was you i would keep a eye out for a hinderer xm18-i like mine more than either the strider or sebenza

You know they are coming for you. They are hanging in the shadows. Run you fool. I can hear the drums....

If you want a Strider, then GET a Strider, as nothing else will do!
If you wanted a Sebbie, I would tell you to get a Sebbie, as nothing else will do!
And all caps is considered yelling, by the way.

Thanks for the great input all it's really appreciated.
regarding all caps it's just a bad habit of mine because i'm a terrible typist and it makes it easier for me both to see and type so once again i ask for forgiveness for yelling in print.

You know what I'd honestly do in your place? Well, since you're in Atlanta and all, I'd:

1. Start saving your money.

2. Get a ticket to BLADE later this spring (which should be in Atlanta).

3. Go and handle all the knives I could.

I have both. I've handled everything (folder-wise) from a Mick Strider Custom down to the production PT- including the Buck/Strider collaborations. I OWN a Strider GB. I've also handled MANY different incarnations of the Reeves folders. I CURRENTLY (though we'll see for how long) own a Sebenza- and have owned 3 others in the past. That said, I'd still handle BOTH before I made up my mind.

I got to handle an SNG/SMF/and Custom SNG before I got my GB. I'm *SO* glad I got the GB, because the SNG/SMFs were just too thin and small for me. As far as the Sebenza goes, manufacturing quality couldn't be more sound. That said, Sebenzas tend to be rather "dead" objects in my hands. They have limited personality for my purposes. They're nice, and executed well. If that's all you need, then there you go. I tend to like my (don't laugh now, because I'm serious) Buck/Mayo 172 a bit better than my Sebenza though. Why, you ask? Because use-for-use and dollar-for-dollar the price/performance factor is MILES higher on the 172. I may get hanged for saying that publically, and MAYBE I just happened to get the BEST product that Buck is capable of making in my particular 172, but as it stands that's my opinion.

I like the fact that if I send the Sebenza and a small fee to CRK they'll make the knife like new again, but I also like my knives to show some character (i.e. signs of use).

Many of these issues are why (since you're in Atlanta anyway) I'd suggest saving your money for a few months and going to Blade. By going to Blade, you could test out not only Strider's stuff right next to CRK's stuff; you could ALSO judge it right beside CUSTOM pieces in the same price range.

If you're willing to pay the full MSRP on a Sebenza or a Strider, I'd tell you to look also at:

Rick Hinderer's XM-18
Kirby Lambert's work
or, and this is a personal favorite,
an RJ Martin folder Havoc if you want smaller, and Devastator if you want larger.

**Caution, though: Once you go high-quality Custom, you may never want to go back!**

ETA: I forgot about Mike Obenauf's work- which I've owned and is also superb!

I agree that the 172 is a great knife, but there is one exception. If I grab one hard and/or cut something heavy or repetitive, the handle hurts my hand.

I've posted before: They are two different knives. If you want to match your cutting chores to the better folder that suits you, it will take some analysis to determine what is important.

If you want to carry a great knife - well, you're gonna wind up with both . . .

I own a SnG, I have wanted to buy a Sebenza. THe SnG filled the bill for me because it was different by having a Ranger Green G10 scale, an outside milled framelock, an oval hole opener, a drop point, larger pivot, blade choil, shorter clip, subdued finish, and Bos heat treat recipe S30V blade.

Since getting it, I have discovered it's the best knife I have ever used when wearing gloves, carries slimmer than the Buck/Strider FRN's, is noticed much less than any black handled or natural metal handle, and has more than adequate edge life compared to most other stainless steels.

I don't think Sebenzas get enough credit for hard usage, but I have explained that the customer base is probably a bit more gentlemanly and appreciates it as a precision tool, not a beater.

I do think it's fair to mention a lot of SnG users don't treat their knives any different than if they had a Sebenza, except in one area - they don't care if it gets scratched up as much as they would with the other, if I read the posts accurately. I don't.

I took me three months to come down to it, and either way, I couldn't get hurt (other than shelling out the coin.)

So, how do you want to use it?

I'll third the idea put forth by SpyderJon and 2nd'ed by TKC, and that is to save the bucks and bust the Blade Show wide open with a wadful of cash in hand!! From all reports I've read it is akin to goin' to heaven!!

You could try both a Strider and as sebenza on the passaround forum. You have to start a thread asking for them.

Ah-ha! I wondered about that too, looking at your posts. For some reason on the internet, all caps is considered yelling, but your posts were all perfectly calm and intelligently written.

If you hold the Command key (Apple Key on Macs, Windows Key on PC's), and type '+' or '-', it will make the type larger in your Web Browser. You can also change it under the Preferences menu.

My Dad has the same problem with seeing type, only I have to keep reminding him to make the font bigger instead of squinting at the screen. I'm convinced that all computer monitors are horrible on the eyes unless you've grown up using one.

See, that's the thing. I get the SAME thing with the Sebenza handle usually. I guess the 172 just fits my hand a bit better. Anyhoo, like I said, there's a bum for every seat, and the 172 just happens tp be a little better seat for me. Like I said, though, the quality of the Sebenza can't be questioned really.

I am a die hard Sebenza fan and have just never caught on to the Strider way...none-the-less, guys love their Striders so they are undoubtedly great blades.

I frequently carry both a CRK Mnandi and a Strider of some type - I enjoy both . If in doubt buy both ! For really nasty jobs , I gravitate to the Strider . Different horses for different courses .

Chris

for me it is, give me the car thiefs, i have had both and very much prefer strider, the F&F on sebs is great but i just have never seen WTF all the fuss is about, so yes, i would want an SnG or SmF vs a seb FWIW.
