I just purchsased a Shizuka Noh Ken and noticed the Blade grind is different on either side of the blade. Can anyone tell me if this is how it is supposed to be? Im pretty new to this stuff and any info would be appreciated. It almost makes the tip look a little fragile because it is thicker on one side than the other.

Thanks guys so much.

The knife is not meant to be a chisel ground knife, meaning ground only on one side. If the grinds are off on one side, then that might be worth exchanging but that depends on how perfect you want the knife to be. The tip is thin more than likely because utility is not its primary function.

I have the Shizuka's big brother Otanashi and the grinds are nice and even. Regardless of the grind, the fine needle-like tip is going to be more fragile anyway. An uneven secondary bevel on a design like this would not detract from its primary function, but I'd recommend asking for an exchange if it bothers you. I'd be put off too! :)

I agree, if it is off bad enough to bug you return it. In my experience CRKT can have hit or miss quality control and or fit/finish.

I completely understand the hit or miss QC reputation of CRKT, but I think they are improving. I was quite amazed by the fit & finish on the Otanashi. I may have to pick up a Shizuka now! :o
