As the title says...I'm trying to decide between the Cold Steel Kobun/Cold Steel Leatherneck Tanto/Cold Steel Gladius Machete...I'm also open to anything else for around 50 $...I want it to be a self defense tool mostly, but it would be nice if it served more than one purpose....thanks!

Not really for edc...probably a goto for defense but also for outdoors tasks...cool factor can rate here as well. :)

Id go with the cold steel barong for outdoor use and cool factor. The gladius machete is a lil tooo light and balanced for outdoor work, its made more like a light weight sword.

For a self defense tool I don't think you can go past the Kobun. It's lightweight, has a slim profile but doesn't feel like a small knife, and comes wicked sharp.

Well...none of those are really "outdoors" knives, but I'm sure you already know that.

It sounds what you really what is a cool looking SD blade.

Are any of those the style of knives you received your blade-based SD training in? (A gladius? Centurion training? :D)

If you have not been trained in any blade-based SD, then they will all be equally in/effective. Get the one that looks awesomest to you. 99.99999999% of the time, looking awesome is all it will be called on to do.

Thanks for all the responses! Yeah I know they are unusual, and I already have a good SD knife, a bushcraft knife (or three)....so this was mostly a search for anyone that has any experience "hand's-on" wuth any of these types. Thanks for the other options, I'm looking into those now.
Does anyone know about any fixed blade knives that are easily concealable? The Kobun is thin but a boot knife sheath isn't the easiest to conceal unless you still wair boots. :)
