I have a leather sheath question.

I was going to post this thread and then check it after I got back from work, but realized today that when you brag to someone about how you hardly ever get sick, that is when you get sick. I had thought about putting this in the sheaths and such subforum, but seeing as it is Becker specific, I figured I would put it here. If this is deemed to be in the wrong place, then please move this, Mods.
So, I was wondering what type of leather you Beckerheads use to make your sheaths out of. I plan on eventually making another sheath or two for my bk14 (thinking about making a pocket sheath, as the one I currently have isn't exactly as pocket friendly as I would like) but I don't know much about leather at all, so generalized and specific answers are both welcome and appreciated. I don't currently have the funds for it, but I figure it will give me a place to start looking before I am finally able to purchase. Thanks for your answers, guys.

I've never made one but from what I hear 8-9oz. vegetable tanned leather seems to be most common. You can probably check online for a knife makers supply to get it.

Tandy Leather is pretty popular around these parts. If you call them they can help you out a lot.

I believe RK is right though, 8-9oz is probably right.

Anywhere from 8-10 oz will work.

Shoot me your address through email on my site and I will send over some scrap leather to get you started.

I sent the email. Thanks so much for your generosity, it is much appreciated.

You should have taken this opportunity to ask (since Goose was being so generous) if he could fold and sew some of the scraps into a sheath before he threw them in the box.

;)
