I have a nagging problem with my Spyderco G10 Endura...Does anyone else?

I have several Spydies, but none of them do what my Endura G10 is doing and it's driving me bananas! I have cleaned the knife as many ways as I know possible; even taking it completely apart and cleaning it, but I get this slightly gritty sound when I open and close it.

The weird thing about this is that it doesn't do it left handed...I checked the blade alignment and I can see that it's out of whack and sides toward the scale that I would open toward if I was opening with my right hand (pushing the blade toward that scale).

I have cleaned, oiled and done everything I know to do. So, does anyone else have this problem with any of their Spydies or other brands?

I'm thinking about sending it to The Spa (spyderco warranty) and seeing if theres a way they can fix the alignment or the gritty sound.

What should I do?

If it locks tightly and cuts well, I'd use it and get on with my life. Only you can decide if you bought it to play with, or to actually use. Decide if it was bought for aesthetics or performance then you have your answer.

While I would normally agree with that pragmatic approach I think it's a bit flawed. You assume I don't use that knife for some reason. I use it almost every day, which is why it annoys me so. ALL of my knives are users except the ones I carry for backup self defense purposes.

If I bought a Corvette or Harley I don't think I would shrug my shoulders if I took it out for a spin and it sounded like a clown car.

Then you already had your answer.

I should have been a little more specific with what I was really curious of. The question isn't so much if or if I shouldn't send the knife off, but if anyone else has had similar problems. Since I've cleaned it so many times I don't think it's an issue of "pocket gunk" and more of a issue with the blade or knife itself. I appreciate the snarky attitude, but it's probably my fault for not being more concise.

I have a G-10 Endura that I bought used at a good price.
Haven,t had any problems with mine but mostly have only opened it several times, not carried but only once as I recall.

Have you had a look at the lock bars surface or where the lock bar contacts the blade? it may be rough enough to cause a gritty feeling.

Tonight I'm going to disassemble the knife again and repeat the cleaning process. I haven't check the lock bar on it yet, but I can squeeze the scales and hear that gritty sound. Makes me wonder if I didn't lock it down tight enough...Sheesh. Haha.

It's one of my favorite knives that I own, but it takes all the fun using it when I don't get that silky feeling I'm used to when I open it. :p

If squeezing the scales amplifies it, I imagine it's more about the finish on the sides of the blade or on the scales, rather than on the lock bar face.

Try tightening the pivot down some more and opening it. Does it still make the sound? You mentioned the blade pushes to the side when you open it, so I am wondering if it's loose enough that the blade pushes into part of the liner where one or the other has a rough finish.

There is a small chance that you might be missing a the spacer that sits on the hinge pin of the blade, (if it's the same as my Lum Tanto Folder). This acts as the bearing/glide surface. If your missing this spacer on just the one side it might explain why you don't get the gritty sound/feeling with a left hand opening but you do with a right. It's a long shot, but might be worth looking into. If all else fails...send it to Spyderco. If it's a warranty issue you only pay the $5 return shipping, but also include a separate $20 check just in case they determine the problem to be something else (which I assume it hasn't been abused). Hell, some people have reported getting their repaired knife back along with their money. I myself was sent a brand new Delica4 in place of my Delica2 (which I broke), though they did cash my checks (small price to pay). However, they went above and beyond and I would not expect that sort of special treatment.

I can see both my washers in there and it was making this sound from the beginning. Also, I once sent in an Endura and had them keep my money and send me a brand new one! Spyderco really does have the best customer service.

As soon as I get home I'm going to try that as well. I can see a very, very, VERY small space inbetween the liners and the lockbar from the top view.

I just really love this knife and wish it was as perfect as my others. I'd hate to spend another $150.00 this close to Blade show!

With respect to my Countryman, Upnorth, be it user or looker, grinding on a Spyderco would drive me nuts. If a dunking in hot soapy water doesn't cure the problem, Spyderco will.

Indeed! If I can't fix it tonight with all that has been suggested I have no choice but to send her to the Spa. I just feel sort of bad since I've sent off 2 knives in the past month already! Sheesh! :)
