I have a new knife incoming, and a couple of questions

A little back ground on myself, I didn't get into nicer production knives until early into college. My collection grew as follows
Benchmade mini griptillian- 154cm (6 out of 10 in performance)
spyderco manix 2- s30v (8 out of 10)
zero tolerance 0566- elmax (9 out of 10)

I loved both my benchmade and spyderco but as soon as I got the 0566 I started loving frame locks (and flippers for that matter)
and didn't care much for axis lock and caged ball bearing locks.
Another thing about me is I have the highest expectations in my knives, in edge retention and how sturdy the blade should be. I hate nothing more than either a blade that dulls quickly or a wobbly blade. I use my blades, not terribly hard, but I clean game pretty often, and like to have a knife I know can take the beating if the need arises.
With that being said....

I just sprung for my first "high end production" knife, I got a coyote brown strider sng in double gunners grip and pd1. 435 shipped
I have held and played an sng in s30v but it was the lego version.

I am just worried if i made an ill informed decision and jumped the gun on the purchase because I cant find much on this knife in this combo, or reviews on this exact one.

my questions to you are
will this knife live up to my requirements?
Did I pay too much?
Is there a better combo of the sng I could have gone with?

The SNG is a great knife. It should be able to take anything you throw at it.

My personal quirk with the SNG is the blade thickness. It isn't a very good slicer and won't cut as well as your other knives.
Don't get me wrong, it can cut, but its no Manix 2.

Other than that, the SNG is a sweet knife and they are made to work! They are supposed to have great heat treatments as well.

well that is a shame considering I sold the manix2 on the cheap to a buddy who is trying to get into knives, but hopefully It will turn him into another knife nut.

That's a great configuration, and definitely a hell of a knife. I don't think the comparison of the knives works, as they really are different animals.....similar to the SNG vs. Benza 21 debate. It's such a hard use knife though, I would think it will handle whatever you throw at it, even if not as perfectly as some other blade may. The handle/choil really work magic for some people though, so I am curious to see how that works for you with things like processing game.

I've always had a semi for the Strider PT.

I was this close to buying one this past summer and someone pointed out this thread below

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/453852-Mick-Strider-has-some-explaining-to-do

Totally bummed me out and now I can't bring myself to do it. If I ever find the right deal on a used one, then maybe. But I can't bring myself to buy new.

The SNG is a sexy looking knife though. :o

I felt the same way until someone put one in my hand. There is definitely something satisfying about them.

It's a fine knife and that configuration is great.

You'll love it.

Nothing wrong with Strider knives. I'm sure you'll love the knife

Strider makes a great knife. It definitely has it's own character and will feel like nothing else in your collection.

The only reason I don't have one anymore, (as someone mentioned above) the blade stock is so thick, they just aren't great slicers, and add to that, the finger choil on the blade will get caught up if you are doing any long cuts through cardboard and aren't careful.

Great knife, but maybe not the best choice for a typical EDC, I don't think they where designed to be that anyway...
