i have a noob question

combat grade are coated and comp blades are not coated or finished what so ever, except for a edge

Combat Grade is an older designation ... a basic blade, always coated.

Competition Grade is new. It's a rough finished blade with a very nice, sharp edge. It ain't pretty, but it can cut. Competition Grade is cheaper, because no extra effort is put into the finish. To date, I've only see Competition Grade offered on the Jack Hammer, the Hell Razor, and the SARSquatch. Who knows what the future will bring?

Welcome to the forums, zpo.
Combat grade refers to a particular offering of blades that are usually coated (black, tan, sage, od green, gray). Knives in combat grade can also have different handle styles (magnum or standard, micarta or G10). They are usually offered along with a limited edition of the same blade which features satin finish and tiger hide handles. The competition grade is a fairly recent finish. The comp. grades do not have coatings and retain some of their Infi dimples. They look like raw steel.

Someone will come along with a more complete answer, but that should give you a place to start.

Here's a picture of a competition grade SARSquatch:
