i just received my NIB SOG x-ray vision on thursday...and over the weekend i noticed the blade is already spotted with rust. can someone please tell me if this is normal and what should i do to eliminate this problem and prevent it from continuing. overall i was impressed with this knife but now i am very dissapponted. thank you.

Hi Pittsteele,

Sorry for the problems you're experiencing. AUS steels, though considered "stainless" are just over the 13% chromium required for the "stainless" label. Any bleadblasted blade is also prone to corrosion. Accordingly, cleaning and protecting the blade is very important. And if one is in a humid, marine climate, that does make corrosion conditions more possible. With the condition just right, days or weeks of an unprotected blade can result in corrosion. Surface rust does not impede the performance of the blade.

If the condition is too much, we can re-beadblast your knife for you. It will look a bit darker and a bit coarser.

Email me with any further question or concens you may have.

Thanks Ron, that would stand true, I live in Florida right on the Gulf of Mexico. I will keep it well oiled and hopefully the surface spots will wear off...thanks again.

If it's just a tiny bit of rust, some WD-40 on a paper towel should work to rub it off. If there's too much for that, sandpaper will scrub it off. Then coat the blade with Tuff-Cloth and you shouldn't have any more problems.

I've got a Night Vision and it's a great knife.
