Guys I have a problem. I know most of you guys have this problem also so i'm coming to you guys for help.

Why do we keep buying more and more knives? I mean really we could just get one until it breaks or we lost it. Then just buy another one. But instead I just keep buying them and then everytime I see another I just like the looks of I buy it. I mean they all do the same thing. Why do we buy so many?

because it's the next best thing...it's something different...maybe it'll be the perfect knife, or maybe it's just, "hey, that looks nice. I think ill buy it."

i do this too, and waaaaay to much, but i think i've actually found my perfect knife....CRK Large Think Twice, Cut Once Sebenza

Been away from the forums for awhile; but anyway some reasons:

travel to different places - different laws in different places require different carries.

different tasks - camping knives, fishing knives, bushcraft knives, gents' knives, multitool knives.

a knife you really like gets upgraded blade steel; like the Spydie Dragonfly FRN version now has a VG-10 blade instead of AUS8.

a new knife comes out that fits a particular niche - I'm thinking of something like the new A.G. Russell Titanium Lockback 3.0 - there's nothing quite like it AFAIK and it's relatively inexpensive too (http://www.agrussell.com/a-g-russell-30-titanium-lockback-folder/p/RUS-P73TI/)

you lose a knife you really like and need to replace it (very rare).

you have one you like so much that you get another before it's discontinued (pretty common).

or...

Eh, instead of collecting watches or...stamps, or rocks, I collect knives. As a bonus, I also get to use my collection.

I just said it elsewhere but it bears repeating:

You know you have a knife problem when....

1. You have an account at bladeforums.com.

2. You check that site multiple times per day.

3. You buy a knife that you know you'll never use because it looks cool or might be worth something someday.

4. You buy the newest model by a brand you like, because it's, well... new.

5. You have to sell a knife any time tragedy strikes in order to stabilize the situation.

6. Your knife purchases increase when you drink, have a good day at work, have a bad day at work, get in a fight with your spouse, or pretty much experience anything else.

7. You buy fighting knives but don't traverse dangerous areas.

8. You buy hunting knives but don't hunt.

9. You buy camp knives but live in NYC (or Boston or Tokyo or etc).

Last but not least...

10. You deny that you have a problem.

Gents, you only need ONE knife.

But it has to be the RIGHT knife.

And how do you know you have the RIGHT knife until you've tried the others?

My knife addiction is cheaper than therapy. Having the anticipation of a kitm (knife in the mail), always lifts my spirit. My wife has a love of Coach purses. We have no other vices, mine is Case, hers is Coach. I do not deny I have a knife addiction. I am walking on sunshine in my knife addiction. As Brutus013 says, I use my collection....daily.

I think i'm with Brutus, I use all my knives. I wont buy a knife to just let it sit there. Sorry for the cliche thread guys I was just sitting there last night with about $500.00 worth of knives I want to buy in my favorites list, and got to thinking do I really have to have all these knives.
I dont HAVE to have them, but man they sure are fun, :)
