I am new to throwing knives and axes. Well sortof. But my problem is I made an axe out of a some durable metal from the store. My problem is that it wont stick. I made it by putting two piecies of shaped metal together and duc taped the middle part where I put it in an opening in a a wooden handle. It is pretty study and well made but of course I know its most likely not gonna work for throwing. I wanted to ask though if its possible. I tried throwing it and it hits the cardboard throwing knife target but it wont stick. The front part of the axe is curved and It doesn't want to stick. Is it because I made it too light? The metal I used was light. I made the handle lighter. Just wondering if its possible to use or not. I dont have the tools to make one that requires a cutting machine. I might just stick to buying an axe but I like to make things and wanted to see if I could do it. xD

A duct-taped on handle is not going to be sufficient for safety. I don't feel comfortable offering advice regarding sticking when the axe itself is haphazardly assembled. If you want to affix it using some bolts running through both the handle and blade, that would be many, MANY times more secure. Overall, though, sheet metal isn't going to be a great choice for a throwing axe and you're gonna' run into all sorts of issues with it as a result. I'd ask yourself if you really want to spend a lot of time troubleshooting something that will end up mediocre at best.

I agree with that sentiment. You mentioned just purchasing an axe and that is undoubtedly your best bet. You'll have to upgrade your target accordingly. Good for you for throwing! It's a lot of fun!
And you came to the right place with questions. There's a lot of knowledgeable folks on here.

Can you post a picture of your axe? Maybe we can help you.

Unpaid members of Bladeforums need need to host their image somewhere on the web and then link to it here. A lot of guys are using postimage.org.
