I have a question about the "5"

I have seen a few with the divot hole filled in with a coin of some type. Forgive for not knowing the correct name there, but what is it, and where would I get one (after I order the 5)?

I am intrigued. I will attempt to reserve comment until I see an example of this coin insert...but I am going to fail.

WHY would anyone want to fill the bow divot with an ornamental coin? The divot is one of the reasons I bought the 5! Similarly I have seen people fill their Spyder holes on Spyderco knives with coins...I just do not get it.

In the end, it is not my knife, so who cares what I think? Do whatever you like to enhance your enjoyment of the knife. Personally, if it were up to me, I would get a coin that has some significance to me and measure it, then mill out another shallower hole in the micarta to receive it. Enjoy your mojo, and your divot...and your mojo need not be limited to a single size.
 
I just have to say that this is interesting. Can we get a pic of this? I have to roll with Unit on this. It's curious to me why you'd want to fill in the bow-drill divot. For those of you who do own the 5, does it cause a hot spot? Is there anyone whose done this who can explain their thought process on this? A lot of times stuff that seems off the wall, at first glance, makes more sense when someone whose thought about it reveals their mind.

Thanks Adam, I have only used mine for a week now...but I seem to walk around looking for stuff to chop, baton or otherwise separate, and the location of the divot is such that I do not even notice it (I am right handed)...so no, no hot spots related to the divot.

I imagine that there are more than a few that will never use the divot as intended (or will opt to make their own cup for preference reasons). But even then, I think it would be WAY better to select a trinket that you like rather than one that will fit...then pimp the handle accordingly.

I am looking forward to seeing the results either way!

No Hot spots for me, and I have used the 5 since it came out. I use the hell out of the bowdrill divot as well.

That looks freakin awesome. Guess I know what I'm doing tonight into the wee hours. I'll do it to my 6.

I use my 5 hole (hmmm, that just does not sound right) as a candle holder when I'm feeling "in the mood". You can stab it in the headboard and it sure makes for a romantic scene.
 
It looks cool, but I like it the way it is. Glad I saw the post though, never saw that pic before.

The divot was intended to assist in drilling...:foot:

(Take that statement in any direction you like)
 
I remember seeing that pic when he posted it and thinking that looked pretty cool but also wondering what it was that he put in there with the skull on it?! What could it be, any ideas?
 
I am not sure someone needs to ask him ???
I could see using a shell casing ? Reading 30/30 or something but brass tarnishes
