Been awhile since I posted here. The reason for that was a spinal stroke I had in late July, 2012. I was in the hospital, and rehab, for close to 3 1/2 months. It has left me with paraplegia, a wheelchair to ride in, oi Ii Ii Ii io io and I will never walk as I did before. But that doesn't mean I won't try like hell to do it anyway!!:D

So lets talk knives now. Anyone out there have a SR-1 with some Chad Nichloas stainless damascus, and if so how does the damascus perform. I will carry this knife but it's use will be very light, more show than go you might say. Of course that is fine with me. Ii g2

So anyone with damascus please speak up and let me know what I can expect, or if you have no damascus, speak up anyway!

Love mine. Raindrop pattern is very nice (though I have always found Chad Nichols' raindrop to be ...., well, for lack of a better term, "fuzzier" looking than, say, Devon Thomas Raindrop. Regardless, it takes and and holds a super edge. I don't subject it to any type of heavy duty cutting, but after putting a good "wicked" edge on it, all I've had to do is touch it up occasionally with a horsehide strop coated with .5 micron diamond spray.

Thanks for the info, and glad to hear that it is not only show, it is also go! Like you it will only see light duty, and carried for the satisfaction it will give me.

As a disabled vet, I salute you for your attitude. I bought the same knife about 9 months ago, but it was so stiff I could not open it with one hand, so returned it and bought a Hinderer XM-18.

I really like and collect damascus knives, though. Search Youtube for "Damascus EDC Knives: Chris Reeve and William Henry" to see some of mine. And search for "Using Damascus" to see a video about the subject by Soloknivesreview. I have never had a problem using my damascus knives on cardboard, envelopes, etc.

First of all Locutus I would like to thank you for your service to our country and am sorry to hear that you are disabled. A few months ago I had neuropathy in the tips of the fingers on my right hand and could not open a thumbstuded knife, had to be an auto, or a flipper. Luckily there are plenty of nice flippers available. But over the past 2 months the neuropathy has left my finger tips and I can open a thumstuded knife once more! For that I am very happy as that allows me to rebuild my collection with some favorites from my last collection.

My SR-1 Raindrop damascus arrived earlier today, and like the other two I once had I can sum it up in a single word, PERFECTION!:)

I don't know how they can get the lock so stiff, but I love it just like it is, tight. Perfect lockup with no movement in any direction, and so is the blade centering when closed. Blade edge grinds are symmetrical, edge shaves hair and newsprint like there ain't no tomorrow. I swear though that the clip is smaller than the other two I had, and if it isn't just a figment of my imagination, I like the newer version better.

I would love to post some pics and will when I get my cousions camera, because my phone just wouldn't do this knife justice.:D

Knew you would love it!!! Great knife that I don't mind EDC'ing! Don't think the clip is any different than the other two you had. I know it is no different in size to my other two SR-1s or my LionSpy. The clip, however, is probably my only complaint with the SR-1 series .... and it is only a minor complaint. It is such a deep carry, that I am forced to place a lanyard on all of them to help extract the knife from my pocket! Don't like to reach down and pry the clip out a little to lift it out ..... nor do I want to reach down on the outside of my pocket to find the bottom of the knife and push it up (for fear I will use too much force and have the knife flying out!!). So, for me putting a lanyard on is the solution. Just tug on it to extract the knife.

That's sorta funny that you mention a laynard drh. I always put laynards on everyone of my knives that will accept one. But I quickly came to the exact conclusion you did especially since the clip is very tight to begin with.

My SR-1 Raindrop damascus arrived earlier today ... PERFECTION! ...
Congratulations on your latest SR-1  AFAIK it came with a v-edge as Lion Steel doesn't use their convex edges on damascus blades. Regardless, my SR-1D slices paper without effort, so the "factory" edge is very useable :D

Enjoy!

Thanks for the info travelller. I knew the other two i had were convex, but this being my first damascus i didn't know. I can tell you i have had a ball carrying, using, and showing it off....especially showing it off as it has gotten a lot of that!

Understand completely! I happened to take mine with me to my annual physical/check-up in January. During the course of the exam, my doctor asks me what I've been doing lately to fill my time. So, I just pulled the SR-1D out of my pocket to show him!! I think, from that point on, we spent more time talking knives than my health! Fine by me!
