I have a thought on how to handle a TROLL
For the seasoned knife maker first,
It would be Better for Knife making in general to Respond to other beginner Questions Like,
How do you like the Grizzly Grinder.
How hot do you get the steel to harden it.
Can you use lawnmower blades to make a high quality knife or sword.
ETC.....
For The newcomers,
Read The Safety thread.
Read the Sticky's,
Ask Question with a post or even PM knife makers.
I Still ask question of established makers and I am Grateful of the help they give.

Notice I didn't say respond to the troll. Now that he is shown his colors help each other out and not his Web Site.
Sincerely,

i will help out a new person who is willing to learn and if i ask what equipment he has to work with or if i ask to see a picture of what he has to work with, i expect to get an answer that suits me or a picture and not a rude reply which just shows their lack of respect and draws attention to their "CHILDLIKE BEHAVIOR".

if a troll has a website and his threads have some negative posts that show his true colors, any customers who does a google search will see these threads and make any potential customers think twice about doing business with the troll.

I'm not sure the 'troll' in question is actually a bona-fide TROLL (which is often associated with disingenuous baiting) ...

...

* It is possible that said "troll" genuinely thinks he's right (or at least is content to believe his own semantic contortions).

* It is also possible that said "troll" actually does hold the typical, "couch" knifemaker in contempt and, by extension, the entire craft.

* It may just be a superior attitude and authentic condescension ...

I'm not sure that's better than being a traditional "troll". I think it might be a bit worse, actually ... :(
...But with so much focus on titles lately, maybe "troll" is a little less than precise.

I may have to get my old Dam Dolls out of the attic and let them post here . They are older than most of the posters here, so their voice is the voice of experience. For some reason Wizard reminds me of Kevin Cashen.

Most of you won't get this without google.

Would those be Thomas Dam Dolls? Google is my friend :D You don't strike me as the doll collecting type, unless you are from Denmark? I say we keep the Trolls in the attic.

I believe anyone who frequents public forums has got to learn to identify posts that he/she is not interested in a quick glance......and just ignore them rather than getting your shorts in a knot over them.
It's worked for me....posts that have Case Russlocks.....Izula.....paper wheels.....Obama.......ignore...ignore....ignore.....

It's kinda funny that a busy knifemaker has time to read allllllll the posts.....THEN, take more time to bitch about em.....

If you seriously think that fellow's threads and the responses to them are helping his website or his business, you apparently have very little faith in people's ability to read.

It all seems like a big deal now, but in the grand scheme of things it's a blip on the radar that will soon fade away.

A lot of stuff was brought into the light of day about one particular guy, and more importantly about how most makers will bend over backwards to share ideas, help each other along, and provide total disclosure to their clients. I think that's a good thing.

i find a lot of trolls tend to have troll buddys that they hang out with and post in the same threads in "groups" and when you call them a troll they get all defensive. then they tend to make snide remarks and then put a bunch of :D:D:D:D:D:D:D after the remark so it looks like they are joking around  i'll just leave them a smiley like this } :p { which will be my way of telling them what they can go do :D

No funnier than making a post bitching about the post, bitching about the post.

If you don't care about yahoos doing their best to peddle junk and disrespect some of the best makers on the planet in the process, by all means feel free to take your own advice and ignore the whole thing.

Dave, I respect your idea and your right to express it. I make it a policy to generally ignore trolls, too.

You are 100% correct that this forum is truly awesome for people who honestly want to learn about making knives! I wouldn't know hardly anything if it wasn't for BF in general and ShopTalk in particular.

But I feel there's a huge difference between someone trolling just to get a rise out of people (they should just be moved to the DumbAss thread in W&C), and someone trying to ride the coattails of this fine forum to sell a bunch of crap. They should be called on their BS and exposed for the scum they are so potential customers can see how full of baloney they are.

EDIT: I nearly started a GB&U thread about monkey-boy, except I didn't actually buy anything from the guy. So I didn't think that was appropriate.
