i have always wanted a usmc kabar knife but then i was never in the marines so i feel unworthy to have one. for those of you in the marines would you look down on me for having one if i never served in the marines?

No! Buy one today! These are meant to be bought by anyone, it's like buying a Yankees game cap or a Steelers jersey.

If you want a true USMC knife, get a USMC Kabar 1219C2 or Marine Raider Stiletto. The Kabar 1219C2 was the first model of the "kabar" or "Mark 2 combat knife" that was issued to troops during WW2. The Kabar 1219C2 was designed in 1942 and issued to troops in 1943. If you want a USMC knife that doesn't cost as much as an original, I suggest buying a Kabar 1217.

There is no service requirement to buy and enjoy the KA-Bar 1217 USMC. Nor have I ever encountered any stigma for anyone owning the knife outside the Marine Corps.

nope, use it and enjoy. I am certainly NOT going to pay homage to the russians involved in the production/use of my ak-47 bayonet, or the nazis involved in making my mauser. ;)

I don't believe it's a requirement, mere mortals can own 1217s. Treat yourself, you'll be glad you did!

Hey do I like did start with this one the rest is down hill, not a Marine or Vet just a Nut of Steel

KEEP EM SHARP

"Don't you be usin' marine kbars...

Go army and maybe i'll let you live..."

Its quite unlikely under normal circumstances.
Not unless you are waving it at them for no particular reason
Other than to see what a real marine can do with a kbar for real.
You shouldn't have to go through life
Wondering if you are worthy to own such a wonderful utility knife.
If it was really u ethical,
All f/u knives would have had its branch of service omitted.
The present usmc was a commercial revival of a classic ww2 military knife
And its success is owed to folks like you who are in awe of the usmc.

My first post. But have to agree buy one or three. I still have mine that was issued to me and it is my favorite kive. When I get home I'll try to round up all my Ka-Bars I believe I have 4 of the fighting knives alone. The Ka-Bar a real Gurkha Kukri are two of the most awesome combat knives on the planet IMO. The SAS Daggers aren't so bad either. Never got to meat any of the Gurkha's or a British Marine while I was in country otherwise I would have traded the KA-Bar for one of their as was the custom. Not so much that one is better than the other but for the novelty and sign of respect for a fellow warrior. Those Gurkha warriors are hard as Iron. (As are the British Marines) but now I'd rambling. Buy the knife anyone who judges you for it is ignorant and not worth your time.

I must confess, I had some of these thoughts as well before I got mine. It's nice that you are that thoughtful about it.. but now that you have been given permission.... get after it!

Love the Four Star KA-BAR,
Can't tell if James is presenting it to them or getting ready to use it on them.

And in an Iwo box no less.

Welcome Joe and thanks for making this your first stop! Hang out a while and don't be a stranger!

I bought a USMC Kabar at a thrift shop in 1957 when I was a junior in High School. I think I gave $5 for it. I have kept it sharp and still use it for everything that requires a sharp blade. The leathers are sort of crusty but it is still a wonderful knife. Later I was in the Army but never considered that there was anything wrong with owning this knife. It is a treasure.

Welcome to the KA-BAR forum and Bladeforums.

Great first post, and I agree. It is a treasure.
