I have an extra Large 21 blade, what should I do?

So, I bought a Large 21 on the Knife Exchange, when I got it I found it had a pretty big chip near the tip; I should have sent it back, but didnt, because I figured CRK would be able to take it out, no problem...
Well, they said there's not much they can do, and suggest I get a new blade, awesome.. Now this second hand 21 is costing me >$500. Well, you live and you learn.

So, do you guys have any suggestions on what to do with the old blade? Here are my thought:

1. Will the blade fit into a knock off handle? It would make a great beater.
2. Make a Friction folder.
3. Weld it to a piece of flat bar and make a pocket fixed blade.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys

srr, thanks for the reply. It's not that the blade is unusable, its just not going to have the sebenza shape when they send it back to me. Which is why they suggest I get a new blade. I didnt take pictures before I sent it in, I honestly didnt think it would be that big of a problem. I have an edge pro, and would have done it myself, but was happy to send it in for spa, since its my first CRK.

Well, It sounds like you got the bad end of the deal here and dealt with it. Just not with a happy ending. That is a bummer and I am sorry to hear that. When you spend 325+ for a used large you hope for the best. I just purchased a Large 21 myself for a great deal. It was a bit dull and I am putting a 30 degree edge on it tonight. Or I should say have been for the past hour or so. Otherwise it is better than I could have hoped for.
I never let any factory resharpen a blade. They always remove too much. That said with a giant chip. I would consider it.
Why dont you turn it into a sheeps foot style or wharncliffe blade.
Or did you already ask them to put the new blade on. Not sure if im that tired or if you are not all that clear.
Matt

I haven't made the decision yet about a new blade of not. Really hoping it will fit a knock off handle to use as a beater.

Hard to say without a photo, but I would be tempted to have them send it back, and clean it up myself. If it didn't seem like such a big deal to you, it's probably not.

You could keep your new blade as a back up, and hard-use the re-sharpened one. You could also get that old blade drop-pointed, swedged, or bull-nosed or something to have a truly unique Sebenza.

I would first say that if you put the blade in a knock off handle in will set you on fire and boot you in the soft dangly bits. ;) That is a bad idea for a number of reasons......

I would second the idea of keeping the spare blade as a beater with perhaps some sort of reprofiling done to fix up the edge. You can also have a new handle made for it easily by a number of different makers or at worst even regrind the blade into a small 2 finger fixed blade, but that would be near my last choice for it though. If you can post a pic of the blade it would be easier to point you in the best direction. :)

Yeah, I think using it as a back up blade is a good idea. Thanks.

I am a fan of my soft dangles being right where they are, so Ill knock off knock-off off the list lol. Thanks

Can't argue against the beater blade idea but I've always liked the idea of a friction folder, you could do handle slabs that look like Sebenza handles or do your own custom styling out of any material.
