I have an idea that I would like to share with everyone

being on a low budget my sharpening equipment is limited to a few smith stones from wal mart and a lanksy 4 rod turn box. My lansky Is my primary method of maintaining my edges but as you all may be aware that the lansky is limited to only 50° and 40° angles. I keep a 40° angle on my all of my blades to maximize sharpness. The problem with this is I would like a 30° angle on my knives so I can have it even sharper and maximize performance and cutting power. My idea was to somehow build a set up that is compatible with these rods that would make it possible to sharpen at a steeper angle. I was wondering if anyone has any insight on my idea and ideas how I could go about doing this with not many tools or machines.

1. Drill a hole straight through a block
2. Cut two 15 degree wedges
3. Glue the two wedges to the block. This will act as a drill angle guide for your holes
4. Use the guide to drill a hole in a block of wood. This will be your actual sharpening base
5. Flip the guide around and do the same thing to make another hole for the opposite rod

It would be simpler if you already have a drill angle guide, but this method should only cost you a couple of bucks in wood.

A rubber band could be used or even some string.

I must have an older Lansky, mine has 4 guide holes 17, 20, 25 and 30 degree angles. No 40 or 50.
