I was going to grab the ASH2 but I don't really have a use for choils...
How about the following knife:

9 inch blade
2.25 inch wide
.25 thick
Sabre grind
Same slight drop point as the ASH2
Handle slightly curved down for chopping
Micarta (green)
INFI of course
NO CHOIL

Who would go for that ?

Yep, choils are kinda Busse's signature... there are some choilless models and varients, though. Timmy's suggestion is a good one, ASHBM (without choil)

I have an INFI dream too

Sounds like an NMFSH having an interesting day with some power tools...

I wouldn't criticize the idea, I just don't understand the reason for doing away with a choil.

Personally, I like the choil on a large knife. It provides for much more versatility by allowing the user the option of 'choking-up" on the blade in order to use it for finer tasks.

What does the presence of a choil prevent in terms of usage on a chopper?

+3 for the ASHBM:

And if that don't float you boat, ya never know what Jerry is gonna serve up in the Trough next!!! ---

I never use the choil. I would rather have extra blade length close to the handle...
For me it works good

Wow,, without the choil thats a totally different blade... very cool

I prefer choppers to be choiless as well. I'm a knife nut, so I carry a small knife for small tasks.

In my opinion, a choil takes away usable blade length at best. At worst it makes the section of blade best used for high leverage controlled cuts back near your hand very difficult. It also provides and unsharpend catch when trying to slice cordage or rope. If I need to do serious fine work, I'm using a pocket knife or smaller fixed blade. I just never have needed a choil and have found them to get in my way.
