Hi

I have a Khukuri that is about 40yrs old. I got it from my Uncle and would like to know...if by the pictures if it is a everyday actual khukuri or a tourist piece sold at souvenir shops.

I have pictures...so if any Khukuri experts are out there and could email me at
brent.hannon@gmail.com

I can send the pictures for review

couple easy questions could settle it....

does it have a horse-head or lion's head pommel?

Does it say "Nepal" on the blade?

Are there large "rivits" in the handle?

All of these (and others) are good indicators of touristy stuff.

p.s. you can upload your pics to www.imageshack.us (free)

You can email pics to me as well...I'll post them here.

It's a very nice Nepali khukuri. Certainly not a tourist piece. The long karda (small knife) is very nice and usefull. The all steel chakma was used to steel the blade, and also to strike sparks with a flint for starting a fire. There may be a small pouch in the back to hold tinder for starting a fire. I don't know what style to call it. There will be better experts along that can address that from the pictures. Very nice piece.

Yep as Steve says its a villager, not a tourist piece, Id guess 1960s probably, i like the mirrored crescent & dot markings, unusual & thats a brilliant karda of very usable size & of good steel I am sure.
