I recently received a mint condition Chinook I PE, and I am now obsessed with Spyderco's G10 "big" knives (Chinook, Manix, Mini-Manix, what else am I missing?)

In fact, I am so obsessed, that the new Emerson CQC7 that I've been lusting after for years and just got - ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH!!!

(I'm the one trying to trade it for a Mini-Manix on the trade forums)

The Chinook is just so big, so solid, so well put together, an so smooth, that no other folder I own stands up to it! The only folder that I've ever owned that even holds a candle to it is the Benchmade Mini-AFCK (ATS-34, PE, round Spydie hole) that I bought new in 1998.

(I used that day in and day out for about 5 years, until I recently sold it to help fund my Browning Hi-Power purchase. Even though I took that knife through the ringer, I got back every cent I paid for it new when I sold it used. Now that's a good investment!)

I never thought in a million years that once I actually got an Emerson, I wouldn't think that it was "good enough"!

Well there is the G10 Military, G10 Police, Chinook II, the new Chinook II(with a flat ground blade), the Starmate, Civilian, Centofant C50, and don't forget the G10 Bob Lum Tanto. I am sure I have missed one or two.
Spyderco makes a great knife and alot of other companies make good knives also. But you can't go wrong with a Spyderco. I have an old Mini-AFCK also(with the Spydie hole, not an oval) and it has been a good knife.

Well, I found a new Mini-Manix (PE) for $85 (Buy It Now), so I went ahead and paid for it.

Now that I have that one on the way, I guess I'll have to set my sights on something else.

I'm actually not too interested in the Military, but how is the Para-Military? I'm thinking of trying to trade my CQC7 for a black blade PE model...

I have a Emerson CQC-7 that I used as a EDC for a while in the Army. Loved that knife at the time, but was never real fond of the chisel grind. While I would never sell it since it's from my "Army Days", I have not EDC'ed it in quite some time.

I have yet to see a folder that locks up as solid as the Chinook I. I wish they made more in s30v. Start looking for a Lil'Temperence or Ti. ATR, they are two of my favorites.
Nice catch!

I got my Para Military a couple of days ago, and it has been in my pocket since that moment. Great knife, solid lockup, excellent fit and finish. Now if I could just figure out why they put a right handed clip on a left handed knife, I'd have it made :D (The compression lock is great, but I can't release it with my right thumb without turning the knife over. I usually use my index finger, or shift the knife to my left hand. )

Lil' Temperance...that one has caught my eye before...it is a G10 handle, isn't it?

The paramilitary is my perfect knife. Now that I've had it a while I find myself wishing the clip let it ride lower in my pocket, but that's a minor gripe. I love this knife. Enjoy the Chinook!

Glad that the spyderco fever ahs passed me over. now if only i could get over the strideritis, they mgiht let me out fo the I.C.U (The instensive collector unit)

I feel you, too. I have been getting rid of knives like mad because I don't feel like they can measure up to the Paramilitary. And I don't even look twice at knives without a spyderhole anymore.

Trick with the compression lock. Pinch it between your thumb and your index finger and give it a downward flick, close rest of the way. Or, thumb on the hole, index finger on lock, press and close

Or if your knife is as smooth as my para, just pinch with thumb and forefinger and the blade will naturally fall closed.;)

How about adding the large Wegner, the Impala, the first Terzuola, & the Renegade to the list.:)

Best wishes,
3G

P.S. There's also the upcoming "Captain".
