I was profiling a blade from a large billet of Damascus tonight. I had the billet on a low work stool and had my left foot on it while I cut the blade shape with a skil saw.

I burned a hole in my tennis shoe. :o
Now I've done that before but this time I set my sock on fire and burned the he!! out of my big toe. :o

Now I have a BIG blister, another shoe with a hole in it and a new object for my wife to make fun of!

Some days.............

Don,
The word Dumba$$ comes to mind. Not sure if it's you, or Kerry, since I just finished watching the St Louis Debate.

Thank God the steel is okay!!! Don't you know by now not to wear clothes while making knives?

RL

Don-

If you were here and you did that, I'd have to use a Stiffler line on you.

Now you probably didn't watch any of the American Pie movies, so don't be offended when I say it'd go something like this:

"Hey, nice going f*%! face!"

:D :D :D Nick :D

If you check www.mcmaster.com you will find cloth made from fibers that resist heat such as nomex and even higher temp stuff . Have your wife make clothes of that !!

I wish I could've seen that! As usual Nick snatched my response; I need to quit sleeping or this guy's gonna steal my whole life... :D

At least your wife can see the humor in this stuff; my wife'd beat me with the burned shoe! Be sure to let us see the knife when it's done.

OH!!! BOY!!!!!! Next time you plan on profiling a blade, you should take your head out of your BUTT.  Glad you are OK Don Burnt Toe. :D

The thing I was wondering is how the metal splinters feel going up your tennis skirt??? :D

Yes Dave....she is very good about finding humor in such things....in fact, she has named this knife for me.

It's the "Sockfire Hunter". I kinda like it.
On the other hand, the knife may well be my best ever. The HT is perfect, the handle wanted to get made and it went in the glue clamps without a fight. I'll know more tomorrow after the epoxy sets.

There may be something to this procedure. I may have to add, "Burning a Sacrificial Sock" to my technical manual and use it on my more important knives. :barf:

:D :D :D

"Sockfire Hunter" - that's a riot! Fine women like this are far too rare. Hey, I'd be sharing my "sacrificial sock" method with the NT folks too! I bet they'd appreciate it as much as we have.

This is completely out of context, except for the blistered toe, but you know what they say: "No pain, no pain." I know, I don't see the connection either but I've been breathing buffing compound all morning and I'm not entirely coherent.

Congratulations on the successful knife. It always feels great when one turns out the way we want it to. Way to go! Can't wait to see it.

I wasn't going to say anything BUT I can't stand it. Here goes..........

There are at lest 12 BETTER ways to profile a blade ;)

Don Hanson lll

Peter, sorry to hear about "THE TOE" now can you explain how you are prfiling blades with a skil saw?
and got any pics :D
