So, I am buying a pocket knife as a gift for my gandfather, and I have it narrowed down to these three:

all are about the same price, but ,currently, I am leaning toward the peanut. Any thoughts?

Peanut. Get the CV one. Great little knives. Of course, all I can say is which one I'd prefer, if I were the recipient of such a gift.

Without knowing about your grandpa's taste in pocket knives, it may be hard to say. In any event, I would lean towards the peanut as well.

My first choice is the peanut too. But....

The Buck might be a better option. I don't know how old your grandpa is, but if he has arthritis or definite loss of finger dexterity, a lock back might be more practical so he doesn't accidentally cut himself.

New pumas isnt what it once was so in a lockback Id pick the Buck. Based on Jackknifes stories a grandpa is like a monkey.....wants peanuts.....

Excellent point. My dad at 85 is starting to have a little trouble opening some knives. Don't get me wrong I love peanuts, but at 53 and a decent developing case of arthritis, I already see that there might be days ahead of me where I might have a tough time opening small knives, if I make it that long. ;). Something where the blade could actually be grasped might fill the bill for folks who might have extra stiff finger joints and might not have the dexterity to manipulate small knives easily.

As a new member of the peanut club, I must say a Peanut.

But if you want your Grandfather to always carry a small knife in his pocket that will not get in the way or weigh anything, then the Peanut

Good point Gus...

For all practicality, the Buck would be a fine choice. Great quality, and outstanding family company as well. With the Bucks of that style, some come with a small leather belt sheath as well if he wanted to carry it on his belt.

Sheck the mans fingers. My grandfather is 96 years old and want his EKA 311 with tight screws so it doesnt walk and talk to easy. He wants it stiff. The man has still hands so strong that he knuckels my hand, and he enjoy it good....

YES!

Very good point indeed. I know at my age I have days where a strong spring on a pocket knife can be a hastle to overcome. Last fall I couldn't even handle a folder, and was carrying pocket fixed blades. It all depends on how your grandad is. Can you tell us what he is carrying at present? That may be a good tell-tale.

As much as I love peanuts, I can see a day that if I live long enough, I may be carrying things like Opinels, or even pocket fixed blades.

85 is great! I wish him well.

Go for the Buck. I have that model and I love it. You might want to also consider a Buck 55.

I would go with the CV peanut. Although any of the three would be a nice gift, the little peanut seems like the most useful of them. You get two blades with excellent edge retention and the synthetic yellow handle is easy to spot if dropped.

him being an old timer he might appreciate the Yeller peanut (in CV if possible) classic working mans knife, i mean who doesnt love the Yeller handled knives:D
nice gesture:thumbup: i'm sure he'd love it no matter what!

"i gots my yeller goggles on!"

Good points all. I lean toward the Buck, but the peanut is also good. I'd pass on the Puma, especially if it is priced the same as the other two.

Thanks guys, I just got back from the knife store and..... I got the peanut. I was considering a buck, but I know my granpa leans towards the slip joint knives, so i got the peanut. Thanks for your guys help! I am sure he will enjoy it!
