I purchased a set of knives back in 1986 at a yard sale. I know that they were manufactured by Frost Cutlery and are surgical steel blades. The knives themselves are only approx 3 1/2". There are 4 of them in a blue box. The image on the box is of a horse drawn carriage and a tree and the title "the Doctors". Each handle is made of a different material. On the blades it says "Little Doc" and has the picture of an eagle. They have a serial # 1329 just below the blade. I'm curious if anyone knows any other info on them. Like are they collector items? When they were manufactured? Or any other info on them. I know very little about knives, but I thought it would be something my son would like to have when he gets a little older. Of course, I would like to know if they should be well kept in the case for collecting purpose, or used by my son, which means they would be well worn out in no time. Thanks for any help!

Ajb,welcome to the forums, you might have better luck with this by posting it at the Bernard Levine forum in the general grouping,as thats what they do there.BTW,before any one else tells you, there is no steel called "surgical steel"merely advertising hype, most likely 440A stainless,or the like.Good luck.:)

I'm no expert, but the general consensus is that Frost is an inferior brand - both in quality and collectability. Smoky Mountain (www.eknifeworks.com) has a large selection of Frost, but I could not find the model you described.

B. Levine would be the guy to ask if maybe there are specific exceptions that have some collector value, but I suspect they will prove to be far more valuable in using to teach your boy how to handle a pocketknife responsibly, than any investment value.
