I have learned that I can not use Private Messages but a moderator can PM me.

Esav Benyamin,

May I please have a word with you or your boss? (The Administrator)

I felt you were unfair today.
I'm not trying to start an e-fight. Just want to say hello and I acknowledged your reprimand. I would have took this to a PM, but I'm restricted.

:)

Edit: You think I'm going to be banned and called a "troll" or "spammer" after coming to you about this? That would also be unfair. :p

I moved this to its own thread rather than a thread on a different topic.

All members can now get PMs, which is something new, but only paid members can send them. Registered users still have access to visitor messages or email.

You got a warning for chatting. Chatting is our term for any conversation in an Exchange forum thread that is not about buying or trading for the items listed. Chatting can distract from the business at hand or it can give the thread a free bump, moving it to the head of the page. We have a 72 hour rule for restricting bumps even by the original poster.

Could I have reprimanded you informally or deleted the post? Sure, but we have the yellow card/red card warning/infraction system for that. This gives us a record of what moderators are doing and a written reminder to the members. We do not like to delete posts unless they are seriously offensive trolling or off-topic spam. It does not solve problems to delete because we get questions from people who want to know where such and such a post went.

Esav Benyamin,

Thank you for replying in a timely manner.

OK, I gotcha. Wow, 72 hour rule as well? That's very good to know. Thanks for mentioning that.

The yellow card/red card system is a good idea. Keeping track of records is a must.

I felt personally singled out. I'm a noobie, joined July 2010. I did not know any better. The chatting and 72 hour rules are new to me.
I figured a simple PM warning would have been enough. Example: "Hey, I just wanted to remind you that the TOS rule is that ___."

I admit, I have not read any TOS sticky threads here on bladeforums. It's also my mistake. If I would have took the time and read the TOS threads I would have known better.

I just got into knives this past month and already own a Busse and other nice knives. I just don't want to look bad here on BF. Maybe a future seller would look at my profile and think less of me, since having an infraction. I joined last month, and I already have +1 positive on my account, I bought an item from a fellow member.
I don't want any negative warnings, I did not know better. :(
If I don't know the house rules, how can I get in trouble? I would need the rules spoken to me before hand.

Thanks again for taking the time and replying to me in a timely manner.

(Any chance of reversing the infraction? Now that I know the rules about chatting, I will not do it again.)

Edit: Oh noes, my original rant was recovered, Esav. I'm sorry I was bitching about the issue at hand. After your reply, everything is OK.
My apologizes Esav.
I wish I had the capabilities to PM you. I did not want to create a thread or rant to the public. I feel silly and stupid now.

Ekdrm2d1,
It is every members responsibility to read the TOS, The FAQ, The Exchange Forum Rules, Announcements and any Stickies posted in the various forums. It is not the moderator staffs responsibility to read the rules to the members. I'm sorry you felt singled out, but you were not. Also, you only got a warning, not an infraction. The best advice i can give is to take the time to read ALL the rules. You might want to also be mindful of using profanities in the open forums.

The staff here on bladeforum has been really helpful.
I also received a PM explaining things.

Right, I was also explained that I only got a warning.
I think this thread has helped the issue at hand and can be closed. (I'll stop posting unless somebody else chimes in.)

One quick thing - if you want to be able to send PMs (VERY handy in the exchange), all you need is a $10 paid membership. (annual dues)
$25 gold membership lets you sell on the exchange and gives you more PM storage.
Anyone can post in the "for trade" forums.
welcome, good luck, and have fun!

Read the stickies at the top of certain sub-forums, they'll explain the rules of that sub-forum.

Other members can´t see your infractions/warnings on your profile , only you and the moderators ,
only the original post where you got it , is visible to all .

Oh , and this thread also tells everybody you got a warning ,so lets not bump it ;) shall we !
