Knifemaker Robert Hankins has fallen off the deep end...

Here's the thread:

Here's the knife:

I wonder what the kamis would think if we sent something like this as a model...

Looks like a good cleaver. I could find a use for it. The grind should run all the way to the back end of the blade though.

For some reason I really like that knife. It almost looks like a cross between a seax and a cleaver.

I don't get it, Josh.

Are you insinuating it's parentage came from a night in a no-tell motel and that if it's parents ever get married you hope they'll be happy together?
:D :D :D

You do realize that nowadays it is not politically correct to call it a bast***.
They now use the phrase "of multicultural extraction".
:p :p :p

Well, Rusty, to be honest, I hadn't thought of it in exactly those terms, and now that I have, I don't know if I like it quite as much as I did:D

Ah, what the hey.

I think I'll go put on a copy of Zorro, the gay blade in the VCR!

It's ground on all 3 sides! Nasty.

But I bet the perspective of the photo makes it look bigger than it is...

ummm...raise the bevel, add a fuller...hmmmm

Yep. Just think of it as a modern Seax. :p

I like it too!!!!:D :p

They say if it looks right, then it is right. To me that knife looks all wrong! Give me a kukri any day. :D

I guess I don't see it as just a knife...

I have mixed feelings about Rob - nothing I care to discuss.

I've seen a lot of his knives and have only ever liked one - a very long and elegant bowie.

One thing I'll give Rob - his work is very consistent. He makes a lot of one-of-a-kind pieces that really stretch the imagination.

It's just not my style.

I prefer simplistic, clean, strong lines in a design. Rob's looked like they exploded in craziness...kinda like Yvsa's crazy '73 hunter... :D

I don't have any qualms with Yvsa's knife, however, because it is definitely nature-inspired.

oh...oh...oh...

I just came up with a good way to describe Rob's knives:
(and I think he would agree)

"Wicked"

If you find that the knives you like look "wicked" then you'll like his work.

Pen, this is one of the most obvious cases of pizza lust I've ever witnessed. Face it man ...it looks like a large pizza cutter. Now go into the kitchen and make some deep-dish before you go beserk :D
