lachine,

I can't comment on the specific knives you own, but I have a Fallkniven A1 which I find excellent in all respects.

My main purpose in writing is to welcome you as a new member from the People's Republic of China. A big hello from all your new friends in the world of knife owners!

welcome all new friends to travel China.I live in wuhan ,the capital of Hubei province, central China..Three gorge is the Hubei's most famous site.very beautiful.

lechine,

Allow me to congratulate you on your excellent English!

I have looked at the M9 and the MC1 on the internet since reading your last message. I hope that mines aren't a problem in Hubei! ;-)

I also looked at the sites listed below to get an idea of what Hubei looks like. It seems to be a beautiful part of the world. I have read recently that Chinese industry is expanding and that the People's Republic is opening up to Western tourism and business. I hope you and your family prosper as a result. Perhaps we can start buying interesting Chinese knives!

about MC1's name ,fallkniven's administrator Peter Hjortberger gave me the answer, this is :the MC1 (Mine Clearance Knife #1) was designed due to a special requirement from a european Nato force. It was used during the Afganistan war and performed extremely well as to the reports we have received. We received no other information than that the knife should be used for mine clearance.Since we have no own knowledge in mine clearance, we have made the knife along with the requirements of our customer. In some cases, we understand that we shouldn't ask our customers what kind of purposes a knife will have and in this case, we have just produced the knife without asking.
Mine Clearance are the words for Mine Finding, Mine Searching, Mine
Disarming, the Mine is the thing you shouldn't step upon :). And to clear a mine is to find it and disarm it.That¡äs why the knife is called Mine Clearance Knife #1.It's a Nato name but I'm unsure wether it is available all around Nato, I don't think so, since the knife is used less than a year.

lachine,

Glad to hear that everything is peaceful with you.

I like to own knives that I would be prepared to stake my life on; I just don't want to be in a situation where my life would have to depend on a knife!

To answer your question about how many knives I own: I have only recently started collecting, but I have owned and enjoyed good knives for many years. Currently, I own the following:

A kukri my father bought for me in Malaysia in 1966
Cold Steel Carbon V Trailmaster
Fallkniven A1
CRKT Mirage
Gerber 600 multitool
Victorinox Swisschamp
Various small Swiss Army Knives.

These satisfy any reasonable need I might ever have, but there are plenty of other knives I will own. At the moment,I'd like to buy more, but I have an expensive wife!

lachine,

Although expensive, she's wonderful & I wouldn't be without her (even though I now have to buy newspapers on credit.... ;-))

May I suggest that you jump over to the Community Center and introduce yourself? I'm sure that many people will be interested in corresponding with a fellow knife collector in the PRC.

Best wishes,

I have no millitary background, but the only time I've seen a knife being used for mine clearance was in a film (possibly The Dirty Dozen?) where it was being pushed into the ground at about 30 degrees trying to detect the edge of the buried mine. Is that how they use it?
Whatever the reason they made the MC1 it's a lot of knife (and a lot of lovely VG10!) for the money, virtually a bayonet. Nice knife.

Samo, this has been niggling me for some time. Why are you wearing one black sock? :) Is it a secret knife brotherhood thing?
