I just realized the folders I carry most are 154cm.

Spyderco Manix 2 (before they changed to s30v)
Buck Marksman
Emerson Vindicator
Benchmade Griptilian
Benchmade 300sn

I really like the steel, and have no problems with corrosion, but during the Summer I switch usually to a knife with 420hc like the Buck Vantage Select, or the 110.

Nothing wrong with 154CM in my experience! Good 'all-rounder' steel for EDC type knives, imo...:cool:

Yep! For many years 154cm and ATS34 were the premium steels. I still have several knives with the steel and carry them on a regular basis.;)

For my needs you really cant do better than ats-34/154Cm Or even cpm-154. Sure many steels will hold an edge longer. But you can bring 154 back from the dead with minimal effort.

Brett speaks the truth! Emerson does a good job with his 154CM, and I've had several Buck Marksmans and they all performed great.

I have had great luck with the 154 Benchmade uses. I had not sharpened it since I got the knife. It has maintained shaving sharp for quite some time with nothing more than a weekly stropping on compound loaded flesh side leather and then smooth bare leather.

154CM is good stuff. I wouldn't switch away from it in the summer - hell, I carry it at sea all summer... Why downgrade?

I did carry Benchmade folders with 154 cm for a long time. Certainly, Ernie Emerson has also used it successfully for a very long time. It works well for a lot of people. However, there are other steels that I prefer, now that my choices are greater.
