I have added quite a few new pics to my virtual tour of the Randall shop. The new addition is the "14 room". I hope all you Randall knife nuts will stop by and take a peek. The site is located at http://communities.msn.com/TheRandallShop If you have any trouble getting on the site please let me know. Also please note that the url is "http://" not "www." A couple of people have said they have had trouble getting there.
BTW if you know any of "those" people who contend that Randall knives are made in a factory by machines please send them to my site. That nasty rumor must be stamped out!

Enjoy,
Dwight

Ah c'mon Dwight...

Where are all those CNC machines that punch out the cookie cutter "production" Randall's that we've been hearing about for so long here at BFC?

*ducking a sharp pointy RMK #9 "Thrower"* Just kidding bud, thanks for the picks...and for driving a stake through the heart of those nasty rumors...lol

We're at 50+ RMK's now, and growing...keep up the good work guys!

First of all I'd like to thank you for sharing all the pics you have provided us in the making of Randall knives. Definitely doesn't look like a factory to me.

The question I wanted to ask is in reference to beartex wheels. What exactly is a beartex wheel? Also are these wheels the same ones used to achieve the the final finish on the blades along with some sort of compound? Thanks

Looking forward to more pics. Keep up the great work. Thanks again Adam

Dwight is the man. Met him earlier this year while at the museum. Pictures look good, explanations are possibly even better.

Hi everybody,

Thanks for all the kind words. Brian it is good to hear from you again.

Sharp Thoughts, a Beartex wheel is what we use to give the final finish to the blades. It is similar to a scotch brite wheel which is made of the same stuff those little plastic scrubby pads some people use in the kitchen. ScotchBrite is made by 3M, Beartex is made by Norton. We also use it to prep the brass and nickel-silver for final polish. It imparts a satin finish. In the 14 room they use it to smooth out micarta handles prior to polishing

Dwight, my pleasure. Seriously nice pictures for those who may not know how they are crafted. I also highly recommend dropping by the museum when one is in the area. Well worth a half hour or more, depending on how much of the variety of knives catches the eyes.
