Hey BF,

I was hoping to have an email/PM some former or current US Marines. I'm writing a involving the load out of Riflemen, and i want to ensure I get the facts correct before it gets published.

Hey OP , you do know this is a forum about knives , right?

Talk about knives or leave.

Well, the discussion will include Ka-Bar knives happy? As a canadian, I know this place has many people who has served so I thought it would a good place to see if I could find somebody.

There are quite a few military and veteran forums not to mention countless Facebook groups. I will grant that there are a lot of both current and former service members on this board it's just not the place. Lastly IME there is very little that's a standard load as everyone has different jobs and needs and there's quite a bit of cross loading in smaller units to complicate things even more.

You do know that the Mk2 fighting knife is no longer standard issue right and hasn't been for some time right ?

The USMC did formerly adopted an Ontario bayonet that's more capable as a knife than the previous M9, but our military adopts lots of things that don't get issued to everyone if at all.

This isn't the place to ask such a question, wanna know what blade if at all is issue that's a different story.

My son was a USMC Combat Engineer MOS 1371. He had a Gerber multi-tool, the one with the blasting cap crimper built in. (Bought him one only to find out they issued them.) Don't recall him being issued a knife, though he took a Boker Applegate-Fairbairn dagger with him to Iraq. Had to send him Skittles, Starburst and gummy bear candy, as they were not standard issue.

When I shipped out with the 6th MTBN 4th Marine Division I carried a Spyderco Endura in my front right pant pocket, and a Gerber BMF on my web gear during my deployment in support of Desert Shield/Storm. I was also issued an M7 bayonet for my M16A2 rifle. The bayonet stayed in the sea bag the whole trip, and was never used. The Endura, and the BMF were used as tools, and never got to be used as weapons.

My son also had a 16+ year old rifle. Every Marine is a rifleman. He wrote:

"I serve part time in the Marines, in a combat role no less, and if the $#!7 hits the fan, I'll be one of the first on the line to die. I'm an E-2, so I don't get paid jack-squat either. And technology? My issued M16A2 rifle was built by Colt and has a very low serial number, and Colt lost the contract to build M16's for the US government to FN Manufacturing in 1988...."

Moved to a bit better venue for this type of question.

If there is a problem, please report it rather than to insult or question.

To add to this ... I was in the Army (19k m1 armor crewman) I know it's not a rifleman. I was in 6 or 7 different units and each unit had a way different load out for the soldier and the tank. So I bet you will get conflicting answers.
